  • heal well bigbaddad best of wishes for the recovery

  • thanks for your kind words guys, means a lot. I'm doing OK, my injuries are doing well - skin grafts taken 100%, broken bones doing ok just waiting for my pelvis to get a bit stronger so i can get out of this fucking bed (been a month today) and get on a frame and try to walk.

I've been in contact with the police and solicitor etc which seems positive, one of those things which will run and run for years i reckon but i got a few witnesses and hopefully some cctv from the garage it happened outside of. We'll see...

    Cheers guys
    Stay safe out there, Ad.

  • Wanted to bounce this thread, really to remind us how life changing a collision can be. I was discussing it with Oliver Schick and Somebody last night. So it's for their benefit really.

I got a message from bigbadad this week, as we'd made contact when I'd realised that we had mutual friends outside this forum. Strangely I'd been wondering how he was getting on last week, hadn't managed to message him though. Wierd.

He has been undergoing treatment for his injuries from this ever since. He tells me he has more operations to come, but has been starting to train gently on an exercise bike, despite finding it somewhat painful. Which I think dereserves a massive ...

    Chapeau Bas!

    Keep on keeping on, Ad.

  • Jeez man, its shocking how fragile we are.

Good luck and Godspeed with the recovery!!!

    Peace

  • GOD DAMN, that's some bullshit. I feel a fixie vigilante mission coming on. We could get some bmx-bandit-esque shenanigans on the go.

Seriously, that's awful mate. Hope your recovery is speedy. A broken pelvis is no joke. You should start a recovery blog.

  • FYI the original post was nearly a year ago.

  • i was thinking about this thread a few weeks ago i remember it well. i often ride about around leyton and see trucks go by way too close this sort of thing is always in the back of my mind. glad to hear positive news about bigbaddads recovery. do you know how his legal stuff is going?

    i wish him well.

  • No, awer1, I don't. But I hope he'll spot I've revived this thread and tell us himself.

Sorry to be so abrupt after getting my saddle from you last night btw, I was just thinking about BEER, and getting the wet ride back over and done with.

  • As someone who has experienced similarly extreme injuries, Multiple femur breaks in my left leg severe crush injuries to lower right leg, internal bleeding, concussion, skin grafts inter medulla nailing etc during recovery/healing. I can tell you there is light at the end of the tunnel mate. I suffered alot of pain for several years and still do now and again, I have very substantial permenant scarring, and require special inner soles to walk properly. But like you, I am just happy I came out of it alive, now I can run, walk. ride my bike, snowboard and do what I want, and one day you will to mate, stay strong, stay angry, and use that frustration to help you push through the pain and speed up recovery.

  • Word. Chapeau to you too, CrazyJames.

  • What happened in this particular accident?

  • heal quick Ad.

  • So are we going to do a fundraising ride?

  • stay strong, stay angry, and use that frustration to help you push through the pain and speed up recovery.

Word is bond. Hope you're doing well Bigbadad.

  • Cheers skully dude :)... on the plus side I have ultra cool carbon fibre inner soles that can withstand over 150kg of weight each hehe

  • I was a passenger in a 60mph head on collision with another car, flipped the car went about 20 ft up and 60ft forward off of the main road, into a side road, and onto some poor families front drive lol, they still haven't fixed the wall to this day!

  • What happened in this particular accident?

    rtft

"i got knocked off by a recycle truck on leyton high road that then drove over me, broken ankles, pelvis etc."

  • FYI the original post was nearly a year ago.

That's what happens when you're posting quickly instead of doing what you're paid to do during the day :O) )

But the same applies. Maybe I'll just message the dude direct and see how he is. I'd almost managed to forget. Now I'm gonna have nightmares about this shit instead of dreaming about putting my bike back together on the weekend and enjoying a tearful reunion with it

  • only just read about this. Jesus ! what a terrible accident ! :O

Totally honourable to post on here to remind us all to be careful.

tells me he has more operations to come, but has been starting to train gently on an exercise bike, despite finding it somewhat painful

    this guy is a legend.

  • Chapeau bas indeed. All the continued best to him.

    Thanks, Skully.

  • Cheers Skully for reviving this thread and cheers everyone for your kind words and well wishes......

So to update, I was in the Royal London almost 3 months and I've gotta say the care was amazing. I got C Dif but that seems par for the course these days but other than that the care and nurses were really good.......

I had my last op in November where they reconstructed my urethra which was a success - except I had a catheter for nigh on 11 months so now my bladder is tiny and my muscles have withered away so I kind of piss meself regularly! Used to have to wear these massive sanitary towel things if i went out but don't really now.....They did the surgery from underneath though so my pernium (sp?) is still a bit sore but i'm doing OK. Back at work part-time 3 days a week and physio the other 2 days - need to build my legs and knees up because aside from being broken a lot of the muscles have degenerated......

My pelvis is more or less healed, it has in 2 places but poorly in 1 place but it's getting stronger. I've got a bit of feeling back in my right foot (I had regional nervous syndrome in my foot) but not much movement in my ankle.

Not much feeling in me old fella either - all those nerves run through the pelvis and we're damaged so whilst I can now pee it doesn't do much else......My left thigh pretty much exploded but the skin graft took well and is rebuilding OK.

As for the legal side of things - the driver didn't turn up to court or make a plea in writing so the police charged him with driving without due care, fined £350 and banned him for 6 months in his absence......he was hungarian so we assume he's fucked off home. Doesn't really matter though because he was driving a council truck so the case is against them. We are currently waiting for the final police report and I've got to have a couple of independant medicals (orthopaedic and ureology) and we'll see after that....

On the positive side I'm going to Condor to look at bikes on Tuesday.......the wife is adamant I'm not riding on the road anymore so I'm going to get a geared bike (my legs aren't up for riding fixed yet) and I'm going to ride during the week at Redbridge Cycling Centre (hog hill)......i ride the exercise bike in the gym which aside from hurting my arse is fucking boring - i'm itching to get back on a bike again....

Sorry for the long post, cheers for all your support and stay safe out there

    Adam

  • All the very best with your healing, mate. Your courage is an inspiration.

  • Don't apologise for the length of the post, what you've achieved is amazing!

  • wishing you positivity (shit, as if you needed more?) Adam. I can't believe this hasn't put you off riding.

I guess you've had some time to think, do you have any thoughts or lessons to share?

  • Adam; I can only wish you all the best and let you know how much I admire your fortitude.
