    couldn't we extend that to "my bad" in general?

    it's a shit development in language, why are Americans even allowed to say it?

    as platini would concur, bad is an adjective; the meaning here makes some attempt at being a noun, which is pretentious and unnecessary.

    I think the correct statement / admission would be "sorry, my mistake".

    not much more difficult to say really.
