  • if you fancied another meet sure we could arrange one down at the ghettodrome in brighton at some point too

    are they...corners?!

  • A cinder track in Preston Park is believed to have existed since at least 1925 and was inside a 2.75 laps/mile banked cycle velodrome track which is still there around the Cricket Ground. The cycle track is now reported to be 579m in length. A world record for the 3 and 4 miles walk was set by Larner here on 19th Aug 1905 but it is not certain whether the track was cinder then. British Olympians trained here prior to the Games of 1920 and 1924 and in 1925 an international match was held here and the track was definitely cinder then. This was also the venue of Grant Ringshaw's 10:06.0 2000m track walk on 23 Jul 1978 which features in the UK all-time lists so the track was probably grassed over shortly after which was also around the time that the synthetic track at nearby Withdean Stadium opened. There is no indication of the track here now. In the Athletic News Athletic Directory of 1914 there is mention of a 3 laps/mile grass running track and a 2.75 laps/mile cinder cycle track.!

  • Fixed, no brakes, drops, bar plugs, clipped in, helmet... Good to go! Spin to win!

  • cheers teenslain! need to get myself a helmet then by the sounds!

  • you can borrow one there

  • I had a roll over to Herne Hill a few days ago. My first experience of a real velodrome! It looks pretty rough if fall on it compared to the tracks they were using in the Olympics!

Do you know if they mind you wearing 'pisspot' helmets or do you need a road/mtb helmet?
