  • I need to choose an OTP bike for my work's Ride2Work scheme. will be used for my daily 7 mile each way commute across London, so just needs to be solid and reliable.

Does anyone have any thoughts on which out of 3 bikes listed in the title is best/lightest? Anyone who owns any of these bikes have any advice / scare stories about them?

any advice would be much appreciated.

    Cheers!

  • I think the Lemond comes with a bontrager external BB crankset. This is something extremly good for an OTP to be kitted out with. Where as the Fuji track just has basic FSA/RPM job.

    don't eat yellow snow.

the external BB on the lemond are more hassle than worth.

too late, i did just before i read that

  • Charge Plug Grinder is awesome.. Looks like an old french porteur without the rack..

  • I'd go with the Plug. My flatmate has the Lemond and the cranks were a pain in the arse till she changed them out for the Sugino's that come standard on the Plug. Fuji is nice, as well though, a much more track orientated geometry.

    thanks for all your replies.
i have read a lot of stuff saying that the Plug is A LOT heavier than the other bikes. I am currently riding something made of aluminium and carbon fibre that is shockingly light (getting rid of it, too small for me) so i'd rather not transition into an absolute tank...

  • Fuji. That is all. This thread can now be closed.

would it upset you to learn that i'd put a freewheel and 2 brakes on it?

  • You should probably go to a shop and try them out. I bet your carbon fibre/alumium thing cost a lot more than the £400 one of the OTP's cost? It's hard to equate exotic bikes with cheaper ones.

Also, Hillbilly rides a Plug and he's one of the fastest bastards out there.

    Good luck!

Why would you want to do that to a track bike?

£341 in evans and apparently it translates very well to the road

sorry wasn't trying to brag! i got a real bargain second hand with it, it actually cost much less than that ;)
will be sorry to see it go.

  • I got my Fuji for £275 form biddlebikes.com

  • People are always crying about how heavy the plug is, and yes it is quite heavy but not massively more so than most of the builds I've seen. I like it - it does feel quite bulky but I guess that means you don't have to be terrified of every tiny crack in the road.

at least someone else thinks that im sick of people slagging off the plug its a awsome frame...it is heavy but u can throw it about.....if i got the fuji track i would be afraid to ride it....it looks so frail like a oap

I meant the freewheel and two brakes part. If you're going to ride that set up, I'd have though that you'd like more comfort, which the Plug will give you. The Fuji Track is a fine bike on the road, but it'll ride like a track bike - responsive/twitchy. If you definitely don't want to ride fixed then the Plug might be a better choice.

Hogwash. Fuji Track is great for negotiating city streets.

i like twitchy. i just also like to be able to coast...
    thanks for the advice! :)

  • there is an intersting lack of mention of the lemond fillmore in this thread. anyone have any ideas why that might be? it does look a bit sort of.. average..

I have an '08 Lemond Fillmore and I like it just fine. That said, you'd probably want to change out a lot of the hardware over time. But I guess that's the deal with any OTP. I bought the Fillmore b/c it has a longer top tube and a higher standover height than the Fuji and Charge. It's not the lightest bike in world, but not bad. My only real complaint is that it is covered in words... LeMond and Bontrager on almost every bit of available space!

do you have a fuji track?

    just wondering.
