You should probably go to a shop and try them out. I bet your carbon fibre/alumium thing cost a lot more than the £400 one of the OTP's cost? It's hard to equate exotic bikes with cheaper ones.
Also, Hillbilly rides a Plug and he's one of the fastest bastards out there.
