Mudguards

  • I'm sure I once saw on here a Turbo saddle with a built in expendable rain guard, It was great because you couldn't tell it was there when it was retracted.
I've tried searching for one on the internet for ages but no one seems to know about it.

  • Which ones are these?

I has no idea, I didn't even bother checking the brand of the mudguard! you can tell it's a slim road one costing £9.

I remember it being around in Japan, but it's not a Turbo, think it's a Kashimax.

Ah, great stuff - thanks ed.

    Probably costs a few euros

  • Kashimax Rain Tails, found within seconds...

I remember seeing these somewhere too.
I'll have a look around my incredibly untidy mind and see if I can remember where.

    (ed) too slow as usual.

  • there you go, just simply the wrong saddle in the first place.

  • Unless you're really short they look useless.

    Not at all.
I'm sure it leaves a nice dry/clean stripe about a cm thick running down your back ;)

  • UTFS is all well and good, but there's no substitute to asking people what they think.
Saw someone with a natty shortish rear (mudguard) that looked to be aluminium, probably only foot long, fixing just above wheel - haven't seen it in any shops yet though.

The retracting one is clever, yes, but it looks hideous, and also as if it wouldn't work terribly well as it's so high...

And still no joy finding a decent front one that doesn't still spray my toes....

  • OK ... good looking mudguards.
Honjo (beaten or smooth, oooh options).
    Salmon Super Profil
    SKS chromoplastic.
Bluemels Clubman for a pre-1970 bike.

Unless you don't have mudguard eyes on your frame & forks.

    Mudflaps are big for '09.

  • just slice up a couple of old plastic bottles.

  • not long enough.

  • No substitute for "full-length" mudguards, iv even fitted a pair of SKS chromoplastic p50mm guards to my MTB, the use of light-mount brackets, the disc mounts and a few zipties, keeps me nice and dry. Stainless stays and fitments, so they dont look too pikey after a winter of shit.

  • I've given up on guards, I just carry a spare pair of trousers now lol.

  • Salmon mudguards FTW. Primarily designed for road bikes with tighter clearances than touring/audax/mtb. Can be a bitch to set up, but look sweeet...

Campyoldy has a bunch at the mo, around £40. Not cheap, but if you're after aesthetics, then these are possibly/probably what you want?!

  • Does anyone know any white plastic 'click on' mudguards? I ones saw an old guy with them on his road bike but never been able to find anything except black ones.

oooOOOOoooo! Nice one - yep will definitely check em out. Thanks for the pointer.

  • hmmm... though they won't stop stuff getting flung out the sides though I guess...

  • I've got some crud mtn bike mudguards...got them both in a racepak for 11.99...the seem to fit on anything (my mtn bike and my fix)...

  • ^exotic flaps^

I think clip-on seatpost thingies are a better bet. They're cheap and a lot better than nothing.

I have full SKS guards fixed to my shitty/daily bike this winter. It's surprised me how I'd get soaked because it had recently rained... rather than because it was actually raining.

  • i have SKS full guards. they took a bit of fiddling to get to fit right, but now they on theyre great.

the only thing that really bothered me, was the metal bracket that holds the guard to the brake hole. the guard kept rattling inside the bracket. i fixed it by covering the area where the two touch with some shrink wrap. i really hate noise coming from my bike.

  • Are there mudguards sold that actually mount onto the rear brake bridge ONLY?
