check the rim tape, i had a smiliar problem but it turned out i was being retarded and didn't notice the rim tape not covering one of the holes in the rim. i wasted about 25 quids worth of inner tube on it

think i did £15 worth!

Patches motherfuckers!!!

• #33
i did patch the first one and it did the same thing...

• #34
seems you guys can't put a tyre on properly.
-
• #35
30 psi before installing the tyre bead? Surely that's where it's all going wrong........?
-
• #36
nah i just tried that as a last ditch effort based on the link i posted in the original post. have never had this problem with any other tire or tube on any other bike but martin at blb said this is known to be a problem with the h plus son... changed one tire and rim tape on both, good to go now...

I've had exactly the same problem. Gone through 3 tubes from popping even though you think everything is ok, soon as you go past 80 - BANG !! Found it only did it on the rear un-machined one. Finally got it sorted now and the ride is super solid.

I never do that I I've not had a user-related tube install fail for years.
You lot need to look at where the puncture is and what shape it is.. match it to the rim/tyre location and then you can pinpoint and ID what is causing the puncture.

you're getting a puncture or a tube blow out?
once the tyre is seated, push the valve body up in to the tyre before inflating.
-
• #40
Your rim tape/strip of rubber may be shifting as you inflate, exposing a sharp edge of the eyelet. Try a better-fiting rim tape.

Also I wouldn't recommend trying to fit anything over a 23c onto these rims, I tried 1 28 and two 25s and they all blew out/nearly blew out the inner tube due to them not sitting in the rim properly. No amount of pushing around could get the tyre to properly sit in the rim, even after all the things suggested here.

martin at blb reckons he's seen 28s on them, i've got a 23 on front and a 25 on back, no problems now...
-
• #43
Fair enough, it just seemed loads of hassle at the time and when I put a 20 and a 23 on they popped in and pumped up fine. If it helps the 28s were shwalbe stelvios and the 25s were shwalbe marathon plus's and conti gp4000s.

Yeah got a pair of 25s on mine which seem ok now too although had a few problems with the rear. Think getting a 28 on one would be rather tricky. Will be putting 23s on mine once the weather improves.

Phew! So it wasn't my incompetence that fucked those inner tubes then, Stef?
Do you still have the 25 Marathon Ultra? I'm looking for a second one but CRC and Wiggle are sold out.

Ha ha, no, I got home and did exactly what you did twice!
The Marathon Plus was actually from my other bike and I took it off to see whether it was the rims or the tyres that were causing the blowouts so it's actually in use at the moment. I ended up borrowing tyres from my neighbour 'cos it was doing my head in blowing up so many inner tubes!
i just picked up some aeroheads laced to phils. took me 2 brand new tubes to realise that the guy who built them didn't use rim tape. kinda pissed. off to the shop, got some rim tape now, no probs.
