Knog lights - kill them in the wet

  • My month old "gekko" decided to stay on disco mode without wanting to turn off this morning. When I took the batteries out and put them back in, in hope that *that *would chill it out, it was dead. It had disco'ed itself to death.

So, I've decided it died from splashes of wetness from my tyre. Be warned. £15 down the shitter.

  • Take it back and get a new one/your money back...

  • have you even change the battery? mine still going strong since October enduring 100 miles a week.

1+ with teenslain thought, could be a faulty model.

  • That's a bit crap. I was going to buy a couple of bullfrogs so that I could remove mounting hardware from the bike (I like it to look nice and clean).

  • Comedy lights for emergencies.

    Clasps are not durable.
    LEDs aren't bright.
    Use expensive batteries.

    Fashion over function FTF

  • My frogs went well weird when I changed the batteries out the last time, they only work when they feel like it now... Just bought a Gekko and a Toad and all's well so far... Only been about a week tho', decent little lights for the money...

  • After using LED lights of any sort in the rain, take them of and put them in a warm dry place (over radiator*, airing cupboard etc) this has kept my lights going for 6 years or more.

*not on top of very hot radiator.

  • And they often turn themselves on in your pockets or bag since the button is exposed.

I want a nice rear light. Anyone got any good ones they'd recommend? I want something that will be a movable feast from bikes to bike, that clamps onto seat post.

  • Agree with |³|MA3K, they're not bright enough to use as your main lights... Realised this when I was passing someone else using them last week... I went straight out and bought the Gekko and Toad...

  • slip rubber band made from bit of innertube on seatpost.Ordinary lights will clip on an off a treat an when not on slide rubber band down tight to top of seat tube-neat-cheap

1+ I rode with my girlfriend a couple time and she told me that she can barely see the rear light on my bike, the front is acceptable but the back is shit.

went and got an gekko too.

  • Yeah, I'm gonna try and dry it out on a radiator tonight but it doesn't even look that wet.

Dunno if I can really get a refund cos I bought it on ebay and I've thrown the packaging away since. Bollocks bollocks bollocks.

Edsgoble - I haven't changed the battery, but I would have thought it would have lasted longer than a month form new?! I will try new batteries.

    sorry, childish mood this afternoon

Do you mean to use the vista loop attachement for your rear light as if your seatpost was a bag?

  • have tried various different cateye ones - most use a knob thing to tighten onto seatposts. am curently happy w/a smart led light but it uses a bracket (but can also clip to bags etc) has anyone recommended the non-friction dynamo ones that run on magnets yet?

If you put on extra magnets it flashes more. Quite cool. Put a magnet on every spoke and you can get a constant beam if you go fast enough.

  • Actually I may have just made that up. It might work using a capacitor so you can't change the interval.

  • i picked these up for £16 in the bike shop in Chiswick.
the rear light is the best i have used for that money

flux capacitor - pretty heavy duty for urban traffic man.. just be sure the keep the speed down

    Super conductors FTW!

For £10 this little beauty is worth every penny. Bright as you fucking like and great battery life, especially on flash mode.

  • Word. So good I put my name on it.

  • As long as you don't hit 88mph you should be fine.

  • Just bought a Blackburn Mars 2.0. Bright as the sun and clips on to my bag nice and securely. It's also got a rubber seal, so no water getting inside.

    No, not like this...

  • If you want a SERIOUSLY bright rear light, grab one of these.
1W of retina searing pulsating car scarer.
And totally waterproof as it uses a magnetic switch.

    Toodle pip
