Whatever you do, don't go for alloy chainring bolts...fitted some to those miche cranks when i first got em, creaked like a bastard for a day until i fitted steel bolts. And yes, i had greased them. I think alloy bolts in general are a bad idea on bikes
Reckon you should get yourself a small bottle of black touch up paint, those parts are so small you wouldn't really notice a DIY job.

heat em up cherry red and dip em in old diesel motor oil, if they are steel screws.

@ germanmarc: whoa, that is an incredibly insightful tip, does that work? how dark does it send them?

I was just about to ask the same thing...if that works then it's genius! i'd love to see some results; you know, some before-and-after-type affair?!

A very decent early 'racist', with some very nice timing and near perfect context.

alloy chainring bolts and alloy nipples are SHIT!

alloy nipples are SHIT!
Really?
Used alloy (aluminium) nipples on my wheel build to save rotational weight. I was a bit conserned about Sheldon's comments on chemical weilding of aluminium nipples with aluminium rims. But I went for CXP33's which have a plastic sleeve in the nipple holes. I spoke prepped all the spokes and the threading on the nipples felt OK. Should I expect my wheels to go out of true quicker?

alloy nipples will just pull through thread, when you want to crank any decent tension into the wheel.

Oh Bugger!
I havent fully tensioned them yet. I shall proceed with caution. -

I ate a couple of weight-weenies this morning for breakfast, they're not very filling :(
Anyone had any luck sourcing smaller bike bits in black. Talking stuff like track nuts, chain ring bolts, stem bolts, seatclamp bolts etc
