Ask for the full price of building a new identical wheel.
-
• #3
I would get some new forks as well as they were bent.
-
• #4
yes. full retail price.

get a bike shop owner to give you an estimate? Include labour, that way he can't really think your making it up
-
• #6
as they said get full retail price on all new parts you need, then if had to miss work estimate how much you missed, add that. Or, because you said you were injured, if you didn't miss work, just throw on an extra useful amount. Asshole should be counting his blessings you aren't contacting his insurance, and if he has a decent car I am sure he has some decent cash.

by the way, sorry about your accident. =/

you alright kiddo? just back on the bike aren't you?
OT: witnesses! and file a police report now.
then worry about costs.

And, if you are really clever, use a shop in the east end of londons famous london.

report the incident, if he does and you don't it's going to be his word against yours when it comes to paying up, he can then say what he likes to police and then you can then be liable for damage to his car, save yourself a trip to the station by downloading a form here http://www.met.police.uk/traffic/forms.htm

Hey there icebergfix, a similar thing happened to me a couple of years ago - only had some ripped clothing though, bike was fine. I was picked up by an ambulance that was just passing by and went to hospital, but I was fine.
This ended up going via insurance, as the driver didn't want to pay me £150 for new clothing. In the end I accepted £1000 (their first offer) even though they knew there was no real damage done.
Pick a figure that it would cost to get the bike fixed - the driver will probably be shocked how much it will be though (my one thought £150 was far to much for cycling kit) - then if he does not pay take it to his insurance company to sort out.
Would still be a good idea to get checked out as doctors / hospital. Shame you didn't report it to the police etc. Hope you get well and there is no lasting damaged, and don't accept second best when getting the bike fixed.

Hey man, that's pretty harsh! Good thing you're actually ok though.
If you need a quote, pop into cavendish and we'll sort something out. In a lot of cases (particularly if insurance companies get involved) you'll need 2 quotes, but we can always get our shop in holloway to do one as well.
You should def claim for equivalent new wheel and forks, at least! There's absolutely no reason why you should have to compromise in this situation.

Had something similar happen recently. File a police report, Take pictures of your bike and your Injures and get a full estimate on the bike shops headed paper.
When I gave the full estimate to the women who knocked me off my bike she crapped herself and stopped returning calls, luckily with the police report pictures etc I stand to get everything back just going to take a bit longer.

Unless the guy is going to be super nice about it, I think you'd be better off going through insurance. File a police report anyway, even if you don't want to press charges (can you do this?).
Roxy's accident thread in the private forum is your friend. And probably the best bet to get decent compensation. You never know, frame might have hairline fractures or you might have broken something small but important in your body. No innuendo there at all.
Yesterday coming down towards kingsland road from islinton, an old merceds pulled past me then immediately turned right without even indicating i went straight into the side of him, i go over the top of the car my bike goes under, my front wheel ( zipp 650 deep carbon ) snapped off my bike, spokes have ripped out through the wheel etc. the hub is bent and its all pretty fucked, my forks where pretty bent too but managed to bend them back, the guy argued at first but ended up teling me if i find out a price to fix it etc he will give me the cash, so i took down all his details Reg number phone number address etc. then he gave me a lift back to fgl so i could go fix my bike, my question to you is... how much is fair to ask for? i have hip bruising shoulder pain pretty sure i did something to my two outer fingers on my right hand.... im not claiming injuries so is it far to ask for a fair amount of money?
whats your advice friends.
