  • Vintage all the way. A decent kit will age nicely if it's kept well and the sound definitely improves with age, something you don't get unless you go for top end newer stuff like Orange County.

    I play a late 60's UK Rogers which is the best sounding kit I've ever played. I had it refinished in blue oyster pearl wrap and have standard 22, 16, 12 sizing. All hardware is new and a mix of Pearl and DW.

    I use either a 1950's Ludwig Mahogany snare if I want something light and snappy, or a converted Premier marching snare in green sparkle finish, tuned really tight so it's got an amazing deep, tight crack to it. That baby's 9 inches deep ......

    Cymbals are 13" Sabian HH EQ Hats, 16" Alchemy Sweet Crash, 16" Zildjian A Custom Crash and a juicy 20" Sabian Medium Flange Ride from the 70's.

    Has taken me 20 years to get that lot together and I love it all.
