-
• #5
very nice. i just got my self a nice pursuit frame too
-
• #6
still researching the parts and stuff but, under 300 by any chance?

I was hoping for up around £415.
I think it is a bit of an odd thing to quantify because, of the bits that are of much importance, only really the rear wheel, (which is brand new) is available to buy from a shop now and that alone was over £100, plus the sprocket. A NOS 24" Mavic front and tub is going to be up around the £90 mark or more from the 'bay. That means the frame, forks, a newish chainset and everything else adds up to less than £215 which seems a good bit too cheap so I'd say, all in all £415 seemed like a good deal to me. -
• #8
Sorry mate, dont have that kind of money ! wish I did though, wait I think everyone does :)
-
• #9
What price were you thinking for the frame, fork and front wheel only? I could be interested. Thanks, Rob
-
• #10
Dibs on the bars if you decide to split.
-
• #11
I'd really rather sell it as a full build, (unless all the big bits got dibs'd so I'd in effect be selling the whole thing).
Oh, I've all the bits to build it as an 'ultra 6spd' (120 spaced) TT bike, if that is of any interest as well. -

why do people lace wheels differently on one side to the other ?
-
• #13
not a critisism just an observation ?
-
• #14
Because radial on the front looks well good!
-
• #15
Did you get my PM? Split, split, split!

Because radial on the front looks well good!
i think you misunderstanded ( misunderestimated ) me
radial on one SIDE of the wheel and 2 cross on the other SIDE of the same wheel
SO.... two different patterns on the SAME wheel
seems a bit odd to menot a critisism just an observation ?
-
• #17
Radial isn't appropriate for drive side, so it's the next best thing...
-
• #18
The driving forces from the sprocket want to turn the hub but the road wants to keep the rim still, if you see what I mean. The cross gives the hub stability with regards to this rotation (because the spokes pull equally in opposite directions). The same support is not required on the non drive side so radial is fine. The spokes are a bit shorter so it saves a bit of weight and helps make the wheel feel stiffer because overall it has been laced in three directions (drive side- left/right, non drive - straight up). Shamal et al are laced this way and I'm sure lots of others too.

Actually if you assume the hub is stiff, I don't think it matters which side is radial and which is non-radial. Perhaps it is traditionally done non-drive side to help even out the spoke lengths and relativeness spoke stiffness.

Hi Jono, yes I got the PM.
With regards to the split, I'll have to do some maths I suppose.
The issue, I suppose, is that it is of limited splitability for me.
F&F stay together obviously, it seems stupid for me to separate the front wheel from that, I'm not going to take the headset out, I just bought the BB so to take it out and sell it for a fiver seems a bit of a waste of time. I've no use for a 26.4 seatpost so that might as well stay as it is. The brakes are non recessed fitting, so they might as well stay on it as modern nut fitting is a ball ache (as I discovered). The stem is etched with the name of the bike's original rider; if I was buying the frame I'd have to have that. I just taped the bars so that cost a fiver, seems crazy to untape them and sell them for that.
So, if that goes as a package it doesn't leave much; a tyre, some brake levers, a saddle, a back wheel, sprocket, a new chain (I might as well keep that), and some cranks. -

Indeed, that makes sense. In my head I never thought about it like that

Ok, I see your point, well if anyone wants to chip in for the f. wheel/r. wheel/cranks at £165, I may go for the rest at £250, tah.
-
• #23
How much for the cranks?
-
• #24
guys, don't split the bike, c'mon,
offer him £350 someone
-
• #25
I reckon he could get more for the wheels/crank than £100 though... no I don't want to resell myself. £350 all in if you want??
Ok, so I built this bike for my girlfriend. She is quite happy with her Moulton and is never going to ride it. I’m 6’4 so it is no good for me and as such it has to go.
I’ll list everything about it.
Frame:
80's Jeff Bruce, 531c Frame, 531 forks.
Nicely made
There are quite a few scratches here and there and a small ding from handlebars in the top tube.
Forward facing horizontal drop outs, 120mm (5spd/fixed). 24” front, 700c rear.
There are braze ons for a single shifter and rear brake cable
Seat tube: 54 c-c, 56c-t
Top tube: 59 actual, 55ish virtual
Wheels:
Rear: Brand new. Dura Ace 7710 track laced to Mavic Cosmos, 28H, radial off side, 1cross drive, dbl butted spokes.
NOS Wolber Rallye tyre. New latex tube.
Front: NOS Mavic 501 radial laced to Mavic Mach2 2CD.
New Vittoria Juniores tub.
Drivechain:
Stronglight Track crank. 52x21 with a new Andel sprocket and new KMC chain. New UN54 BB
Finishing Kit:
Cinelli 1A stem 80mm, etched with the name of the bike’s previous owner; R. Pickup
Azonic risers.
New Bartape.
Kalloy seatpin.
Exage front caliper, new blocks
NOS Selle Italia Advocet Turbo saddle.
NOS BMX brake lever
I think that's it. It weighs about 15.5 lbs on my bathroom scales.
I’ve only got Look road pedals going spare I’m afraid
It’s never been ridden since I built it up (actually I haven’t glued the front tub on).
£Offers?
Oh, I'm in Dalston if anyone wants to come and have a look.
Cheers,
David
