  • the Soma ones aren't the same... they are bullhorns .
The nittos I was talking about are pursuit bars so there is a slope in the middle of them.
You can get Nitto ones like that though

  • MAN those pursuit bars are uncomfortable! More money well spent....

  • yeah, thats what I thought. Hence the sale!

  • Will I EVER discover the perfect handlebar setup? Is there such a thing? I would start a new thread on it if there weren't already 50 on every cycling forum...

  • what did you have before?

  • mongrel: you are supposed to have you hands placed in the drop most of the time, not on the slope...

  • Well I started with normal drops but got rid of them cos I was always on the flat top part and wasn't in easy reach of the brakes all the time.

Then I moved onto aerowing bull bars with bar end brake. That was okay and I had that for a while, but to be honest not too comfy because your arms are always stretched quite far forwards to keep your hand on the brake.

So then I switched to a short flat bar and I do really like that. My only gripe is the lack of different hand positions... And also it's not great when pulling uphill...

So then I picked up the TT bar. Not keen on having my hands down on the drop cos I like to be not too leant forwards and always have a hand on the brake.

I think the next step in my quest is to go back to the short flat but add bar ends...

  • have you tried bullhorns with a normal drop lever on the underside? ie on the bit of the bar that points forwards and with the lever facing away from you?
Know what I mean? It means you can ride in different positions and don't have to stretch so far to reach aero brakes mounted on the end of the bars.

  • i have not. If I can find my old drop brake i might give it a go...

  • put a dirt harry on the tops of the bullhorns.

  • do the pursuit/ bull horns with the aero break on the end (for sprinting/ hills) and an interrupter on top for the rest of the time, sorted.

I love drops, but i dont always have a hand on my (cross lever) brake, I find it easier to skid in the drops and while sprinting, so its not a problem

  • flat bars with Ergon grips?

    ugl

    Ugly but functional....

  • winston uses flat bars with MTB such as that. Seems to work for him.

  • i think you should forget pursuit bars/ bull horns and just get those areo tt bars.

  • hey if you still want the bars, could you let me know?
    Ta

    Otherwise I'll take them

    Jakob

  • will sell these for £15!
Went back to my flat bars and it was such a relief. Need cash badly (finally summed up tht courage to look at my bank balance and was right to be afraid) so any takers?

If they're in good condition (No scratches outside stem-area), I'll take them.

  • sweet. There's a couple marks but they're not on the stem area. Whereabouts are you?

  • Those Nitto bars flex an awful lot when you're out of the saddle and pulling on them hard.

I take it back. Wrong again. I changed my stem last night cos I've been feeling a bit strung out on longer rides. The new Pearl stem is 3cm shorter than the old Dynamic one. Pulling away from the house this morning, the first thing I noticed was the lack of bendiness. Going up steep hills is now a flex-free experience, too.

It seems the flex was in the Nitto stem and not the Nitto bars. Maybe it's a good idea to pair short-ish stems with bullhorns. Cos if you pull on the end of the bars, the force on the stem is going to be considerable because of the distance between them.

  • These Nitto persuit bars. Any body ever seen them available off the peg in black? I really want a pair, flex or not I hate the drop bars I recon these will sort me out nicely.

  • Holy shit! I wasn't a flexi-phobe before, but I am now. That photo will pop into my head every time I stand up now.
I think I'll forget about pedalling in circles and concentrate on clenching the saddle with my buttocks.

Don't know if you are still looking for the nitto bars, but with regard to the bars snapping, and possible the flex too, I just found these in steel, wich should be a lot stronger

  • sorry for digging up an old thread, but i'm also after some of these nitto pursuit bars or simmilar..... everyhere seems to be out of stock at the mo.
has anyone got anything suitable that they are willing to part with?
