He has continually represented Hip Hop in this country longer than anyone that I can think of. His first Mix CD had an awesome selection of UK hip hop. Yeah his shows do normally cater more towards the 50cent end of the spectrum but I have also heard him play people such as: Ty, Lewis parker, Skitz, Phi Life Cypher and Jehst way before anyone else did.

yeah but dude - that's all a given. He has thank you credits on NYC albums from the mid-80s, such is his legacy of working hard to bring new artists to the people. He worked tirelessly through the 90s to get the big names in and the new talent up.

Even so, since year dot he's been widely regarded as a bell as much as he is respected for his work. We would listen to him on a friday night getting blunted and a whole room would be cringing and pissing it at the bollocks he came out with, even though it was the essential show for people outside London.

But don't be so sure about the UK bit - he came under a lot of fire (no pun intended) for his treatment of UK artists in the 90s and even KRS 1 had a go at him on his show after a word with the Brixton crews. Saying that I've seen him at the bar in a small club on a Tuesday night putting the groundwork in, even a few years ago.
