Polo in De Beauvoir residents newsletter

  • had a call last night from someone who does the newsletter for the De Beauvoir area - she lives in Ufton Road, and has been following the polo with interest.

She is going to put a small item in the newsletter about polo, and perhaps a photo as well. The photo might happen this weekend at Downham - I said that a few of us were likely to be in the area, and could easily come down for a photo.

She also said that someone who spoke to her on NYD said something about the court needing lights - so she's going to write to the local councillors to see what can be done.

  • and a portaloo? haha!

  • we spoke to her over xmas at some point, she seamed really happy the court was being used and that we were actively trying to attract locals to get involved (also mentioned her husband might be tempted to give it a try). We talked about the lights being an issue and she mentioned she'd have a word with the council. nice woman

  • good luck to her, i've spoken to hackney council twice now. Nothing came of it.

  • Cool! I assumed it was gonna be negative press about you noisy lot throwing your mallets about.

  • good luck to her, i've spoken to hackney council twice now. Nothing came of it.

Perhaps it'll carry more weight coming from a 'community representative'. Can't hurt either way.

  • indeed. good news. we owe these people (brick lane residents etc) our thanks for letting us hooligans hooliganise. :D

  • yeah, of course bill, i wasn't saying it wont work. I hope they do get lights there, would be wicked.

  • I think if it had lights it might be in the running for best court in london.

  • it's great though isn't it? anyone remember the "good ol' days" of skateboarding when we used to get endlessly kicked out and moved on from area to area?

  • where do i sign? dont use the court for polo but lights (coin operated?) would mean i could use it for cricket practise in winter.

  • Might be worth mentioning that De Beauvoir is represented by it's own league team? Just for a further sense of local pride. etc?

  • Whoever talks to her, please mention the Champs. We want people to coe and watch. They can come and root for the townies (erm, if they make it in...)
