un fucking believeable... talced both tube and inside of tire... inflated tire to around 30 psi, started installing tire bead from valve by hand, only used tire lever at the very end bit, check tire for pinches, inflated to 80 psi ok, left it sitting there... about 10 minutes later it just burst on it own!
frustrating and i feel like a dunce...

What tyres are you using? 30psi sounds pretty high for inflation prior to mounting tyre. tube should ony really be inflated enough to give it shape.
-
• #4
sorry, havent checked that link above, but check where the punctures are happening, if at the same location, there could be something on the rim that's cutting onto the tube
-
• #5
well first i did it completely deflated, then i followed the link aboves advice to inflate it a bit, didnt seem to stay at 30 psi anyways. front tire is a gran comp ss back is a continental ultra race.
i'm guessing it must be the rim, will grab soem tape tomorrow...

YES FINALLY! i had this problem with about 6 inner tubes on my h plus son's and on more then one occasion its sooo fucking annoying. i think the best options are to make sure you have the inner tubes 48mm valve length or longer. also use a valve extender and make sure the lockring on the inner tube and valve is on. the pinch tends to be at the valve hole for me, i found a technique to get it tucked in properly now though

In my excitement to get my new Goldtec/H+Son on my bike I forgot to put rim tape on and knackered two inner tubes in the process... How I laughed... That doesn't really help tho'... Agree with MV, don't over pump before putting the tyre in the tube... You could have a dodgy rim, check where the puncture's happening for sharp bits...
-
• #8
mine were fine.
but weirdly the tire never seems as pumped up as you'd expect it to be.
-
• #9
yea at one point when pumping em up they stop pumping more and the pump gauge never reads the right pressure its so stupid

using bontrager race x lite 70g with 60mm valves...
@ nos - oh well feels better to know i'm not the only one... what is your mystery technique?
-
• #11
It took me about 20mins with some beers and some friends round.
gators, tough bastards.
had to take the tire off and on again just to check everything was ok.
I think they might be designed for 20 and below tires. -

Strange you had problems with a Gatorskin, I didn't have any at all, switched to a Soma now... Weird... Conti Ultra Sport onto a 27" Jalco deep section rim, different story... Such a shit tyre... Pinchy pinchy all the fucking time... :/

it wasnt anything amazing all u have to do is that i could see the puncture at the valve bit of the tyre and inner tube and basically either side of the tyre i could see the inner tube squashed and being pinched so i would lift up the tyre and push up the valve slightly so that it tucks into the tyre and then push back down and its no longer pinched

Fact- some rims have an inbuilt fairy . . .
-
• #15
farken ghey...
-
• #16

-
• #17
ved - what tyres and what tubes?
-
• #18
are those rims just complete shite??? I only ever hear bad things about them. They do look rather nice though!
-

Specialized armadillo elite and schwalbe tubes 60mm xtra long valves. Also used rubinos on these with no issues.

Don't believe the hype, they fucking rule... Mine rides awesome... And it still looks great even though it's covered in a weeks worth of road gunk/oil/salt/dog shit/WHY...
-
• #21
@ Ved: Surprised you got a Rubino to stay on, mine kept popping off... Gator was fine, Everwear is great on there...
-
• #22
yep no issues Joe, never had a single problem with this wheel AND i built the fucker myself...ha!
:s

install tyre ending up at valve not starting from-also I find making sure talc is not just inside tyre but all over bead and outside as well for good measure-wash it off afterwards if you don't want the general public to see that you need to use "I can't HTFU dust"!

I was thinking about getting rid of the araya on my rear and building up a black h plus son a while back. how much are they out of interest?

I wouldn't bother, they've jumped up to £60 per rim now... Crazy talk...
am having exactly this problem - http://www.bikeforums.net/archive/index.php/t-90703.html
doing my head in, gonna try all their suggestions but just wondered if anyone has had experienced this or knows a way round it...
oh yeah i'm using rubber for the rims not tape so will grab some tape tomorow and see if that sorts it...
