a) Never give money to charity. Potential beneficiaries get nothing.
b) Give money to charity, evil corrupt charity uses most of the money to add an extra floor to each employee's mansion, the rest given to potential beneficiaries. Beneficiaries receive something.
c) Give money to an honest charity which is sensibly divided up into helping the given people in need and necessary administrative procedures. Potential beneficiaries receive the money they need.
Ignoring the fact that not all three scenarios are equally likely to happen, the odds are stacked in charity's favour and in 2 of the 3 scenarios the people in need end up getting something out of it. It's your job to be discerning as to who you give to, but to say that they are all evil money grabbers is just an excuse not to give in my eyes. The reason some charities don't appear to be giving all the money they receive to the people who need it is that no-one gives enough in the first place meaning they have less money to keep the charity running. It's a vicious circle because people don't trust them enough to put the money where it's needed, so they don't give, so the charity loses money and less of it goes to the intended cause.
