awesome... train to london from dorset, ride to paris, stopping at many bars and sleeping rough, head for St malo, seacat ferry to channel islands, and then back to dorset

nearly had an eight bike pile up when one of us swerved to hit a hedge hog.
This is perverse. People normally swerve to avoid hedgehogs, don't you know.

what can i say he's a sick bastard

I had to read it twice! you're supposed to miss them. Stuff being concious of wildlife, you don't want to risk puncturing that wheel.
-

Just don't hog the hedge too closely, as that's where all the thorns are, and you're less likely to get a puncture.

Would have served you right to have had an eight bike pile-up. It probably would've ended up looking a bit like a hedgehog. ;)

don't blame us, the hedgehog had a deathwish!
avenue vert from dieppe is 25 miles of fun. it's the first completed part of the london-paris bike route
bit cold when me n kelvin et al did it tho (we got the overnight ferry, arrived 4am, leaving 4 hours cycling in freezing september darkness).
most necessary point for a proper cycle route is in the endless paris suburbs when you're tired and don't know where you're going.
i've taken my bike on eurostar both ways now (ie: once i booked a place, so it travelled bagless, as cargo on my train; once in a bike bag).
would recommend the second - there were tons of people doing it, including a large group going down to do ventoux...

Genius, and a track stand comp on the weather deck!
Summer bank holiday weekend lfgss trip down to france?
Hmmm does anyone know where the most north western track in france is? or at least the nearest to the ferry?

Call me crazy, but wouldn't it be better to spend the money on cycle facilities in cities, where people will actually use them every day?
-

I plan to ride to Paris and back twice weekly.
-
• #62
...anyone fancy having a race along it when it opens?

North eastern would be a better bet.

Holy shit, this sounds the nuts! I'll finally be able to take the S.O. for the romantic break to paris she#s always wanted, just won't tell her bout the riding bit.
Oh, and I'd would be well up for a drag race to paris!!!

Can I have a had start?

True. I cycle to uni everyday, about 30% is so called cycle friendly. Unless...maybe I should change to a university in Paris?

Just read my previous post which sounds a little negative, really I'm not, i've ridden to Paris a couple of times and the idea of doing it mostly traffic free is wicked....
The best thing is that this will get great publicity and hopefully a lot of use, which should inspire smaller projects.....

But, isn't the other 70% more fun?

i wouldn't get too excited.
it'll probably be some transport planner (who drives a car and does not ride) thinks.... 'i know i will put a few signs up, draft a news bulletin and job done'.
will it be fit for purpose. probably not.
a bit cynical i know. but i am not a big fan of 'cycle paths / cycle lanes'.

Very good point.
£30 million would go to better use in the cities.

No head starts, tho i suppose you'd have to have a "neutralised" stage at the ferry. Maybe a trackstand contest across the channel?

Good point, as unfortunately proved by the some of the useless cycle paths round here.
Right, fuck art school and music, I'm going into journalism just to found that paper.
