The problem with this is that obviously there's some homophobia in there... and that offends us. Well, it offends those of us who interpret the use of the word gay as a negative.

The problem with the example given, the word nigger, is that it too offends those who interpret it negatively. It is more offensive if said by a white American, less offensive if said by a black American (reclaimed) and some brits will get away with it being considered not offensive based on naivety and stupidity of this nation.

The point I'm struggling badly to make, is that to be offended by something is a cultural,social and possibly generational thing, and what is offensive to you and I, may not be as offensive to other people.

Now the way I run this forum is that I don't force my views onto all of you. My definition of offensive isn't being applied. If I did, I would've banned a fair number of you at various points, because you act like cocks at times.

Instead, when you act like cocks I try and tell you. I hope that by showing you you're being a tit that you might pause and think next time and not be one. But perhaps you will again, in which case I'll point it out again.

If someone is being homophobic on here, I don't want this to be the kind of place where a guest reading the forum sees that it's acceptable... but I want you who are offended to be the ones who pull those who have been offensive up on it. Basically, there will be no policing or banning, but you all have the ability to let someone know when they're being extremely offensive.

So if you feel that in this instance this user needs dressing down then it's up to you to contact the user and let him know. You can do this privately, publically, whatever... but you shouldn't sit by and do nothing if you're truly offended... and a lot of the time joking about it dismisses it... so maybe you should highlight that you're being serious too.

I dunno, I just don't think it is for me to police the forum like that, and I really don't think you will want me policing the forum like that. In which case, it's pretty much up to all of you, if you wouldn't tolerate it in a pub, don't tolerate it here... but equally, it cannot be unsaid in a pub, and it won't be censored on here.
