you get hit by a truck and loose a leg (as it almost happened to some people on this forum) Would you stop riding if there was a chance you still could?
No, I would not, the last thing a family needs to see, when for instance leaving church on Sunday, is me dragging my hideously disfigured shape passed them on a bicycle.
Isn't that just as true now as after this imaginary accident?
Genius thread btw.
Out of interest is a one armed rider (on a geared bike) road legal? Because surely they've only got one brake?

tynan quote;
I pay a lot of money every year in taxes so we can build good prisons and secure hospitals - and yet I am still regularly greeted at the traffic lights by the sight of some one legged (and often single eyed) cyclist, and you are telling me this is right ?[/quote]so your suggesting these incredible sportsmen should be in prison or should not leave the hospital bed? plus im sure ur 40k car has electric windows u can wind up if the smell of bravery is that awful.

I've raced (and been beaten by) a one armed guy in mountain bike endurance races. I don't know how he does it, but he manages to ride off road on a geared bike at a decent pace with only one arm while most people struggle to do it with two.

Seeing these 'things' with their hunched backs and single centred eyes dragging their largely ornamental limbs behind them as they crawl up the hill to the supermarket is not good for the mental well being of the children, that much is obvious.
Let's say, for instance, that you are on the way to see the comic performer Jim Davidson on a bank holiday weekend - with your kids in the back seat of your car - and they see a 'disabled' strapped onto a bike by some good meaning liberal (probably a homosexual or an immigrant) - they are hardly going to simply ignore what they have just seen are they now ? They will most likely be upset, probably start to cry and who knows of the long term damage to their impressionable young minds ? Do you really think that is a good idea ?
So you are saying we should wilfully expose our children to the diseases these people carry ?
Ha! Tynan bigoted in public so you don't have to be...
and I know of a copper who was assigned 'crowd control' duties at a 'millitant ' disabled rights protest sit down in the road thingy who came home at the end of the day with the conclusion that ' them lot are a right bunch of wankers' .
My son refused to eat his tea in front of the television because the paraplegic olympics were on. -
