Not wooden, what your seeing is extra tape and laquer used to make sure your tub won't roll off under the forces generated. There was a great write up by Brian Taylor about what it's like to ride behind the "big motors" but can't find it. Apparently this year there will be once a month training at HH with the Triumphs on Thursdays.
