Herne hill track is closed for the winter, its an open track and the banking is slippy in the wet.
you could not ride a geared road bike there on a track session, although i think they may sometimes allow people to ride on it on a specific roadie session.
they have rental bikes there, in all sizes so if you want to give it a go just turn up on a saturday morning, the cost of rental is included in the price of the track sesion
you need to do an induction whereby you are taught the basics of riding on a track, and using a brakeless fixed gear bike.
this induction costs £5(?) and lasts about 1hr and it is followed by a training session which costs the same and lasts a couple fo hours.
