Where is my nearest track?

  • I tend to just use my fixed gear to upset other motorists, but wouldn't mind trying having a go at upsetting other cyclists for a change insteade.

Where is the best place for me to take my track bike for little indoor fun? im normaly found causing my own brand on anarchy around the west london area.

  • there's a session @ Calshot 30th Jan with Prime Coaching PM me if interested and I'll send details.

Tip- there's toilets and really good showers there, but no heating in the Velodrome so its a question of being wrapped up to cater for the cold when on the bike, and even more clothes when off the bike.......seriously, it can feel warmer outside the Velodrome than inside it.

You WILL need a gear of 79-81" to get round there neatly (racing is done on about an 84, speed is your friend etc, less than 15mph and you're down on the deck), crash helmet, and the usual incontinence pants.......

Outdoor- Reading- Thursday's 8.15pm its road bikes, at Welwyn its also road bikes too, Sats @ Hernia Hill will get you out on fixed though, check the VCL web site methinks.

  • I thought that session was on the 31st, the 30th's a friday.

    Interested! PM'ed

  • I think I'm down for that Calshot session with my Dad. Will be my first time on the Velodrome, only ridden Mount Batten centre in Portsmouth. I'm assuming its advised for a bit of coaching as I hear its rather steep. You can rent bikes there for £5 too right?

Not indoor, and you don't say where you are, but I like the Hillingdon track, straight up the Uxbridge road near Hayes. Small but varied circuit, and the ride to it ia a warm-up.

  • hippy ,tommy said insteade ,so you said hille..... subtle sarcasm good to see the pisstaking has lost its finely honed edge

  • the calshot track is probably the most fun you can have on a track too. shorter=steeper..

  • mrsblucher recently gave a heads up to Ciclos Uno, which has this map of UK tracks in their website.

  • I created a collections of all Velodromes in the UK on Google Maps:
    http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=107581291947925336035.00044c012fbb22b42b4c1&t=h&z=6

Includes details of what type of track, surface, facilities, etc (where the info is available) that are at each venue.

Calshot is a great track to ride on. Very similar to the Six Day tracks in Europe. They run a winter track league there on Sundays.
