  • shock? i've got deep v's and they are fine ride quality wise, I went for them because they've got a reputation for being tough and I ain't no featherweight, and it meant I could compliment the colour scheme of my bike.

  • I use them because i don't wont to use the same type of boring rim i have used my hole damn childhood + they are sturdy and looks pretty good, could be deeper.

  • best polo wheels fo shu

  • coming from mtb, I always thought road bikes looked really skittish, noodly and weak. With little prior knowledge given the choice between a deep section just looks like its gonna be tougher. Now I'm here and have learned a little more and gotten an appreciation for the more classic look, I'd love to go a set of low profiles (the grey open pros)

  • Deep V's makes your bike look like a toy

  • This sounds like a bloody rehab group.

  • aesthetics? lo-pro rims look far nicer

  • Deep-Vs look really flash... H+Son look even more flashy... I use both... I think they do make your bike look like a toy, but that's OK...

  • iv got a pair of open pros built up that have un-trueable kinks in the rim from relativley minor knocks. i think that although deep vs are heavy the deeper section will make them last much longer on london roads and the unavoidable knocks and shunts you will get from riding alot. and they come unmachined...unless you go for the ceramic open pros, why put a braking surface on the back...

    chuh.

it makes my day seeing such good wheels getting busted up for normal street riding. means the outlets selling this stuff are doing good business, and helps the second hand market for people who buy this stuff for its intended purpose and want to sell on. mrsblucher thinks mrsmith is right on when he says there's people deluding themselves they're somehow more practical or durable or worth the cash. yeh keep riding these wheels and keep other people flush .. hahaha .

  • They are a smooth ride, make my bike look cute, (I am a girl what can I say ha) and roads in Arizona at least were shitttttt. Lots of potholes. They handled everything well. I may be wrong...scratch that, no, it's definitely not a bad thing to have fun with the appearance of a bike...

  • ...confused

  • coz they come in stupid colours innit

    like durr

  • blah blah blah blah blah.
    blah.
    B L A H.

  • everyone keeps telling me theyre stronger. i've yet to experience that. i've fucked up two pair of Deep v's, and i've never even thrown my mavic rims out of true.
i just got a pair of DT swiss RR1.2's back from paint and they look amazing, ride even better and are some of the most durable wheels i've ridden. they have a deeper dish and a smoother ride than deep vs.
but like Smith said. nothing wrong if you like cute wheels. i just spent the same price i paid for the wheels getting them painted.
i got the response i expected...

  • Deep V's actually are weaker laterally than lo profile ones do due to their shape, but they do have increased vertical strength compared to low profile ones, just as a general rule.

  • speed n climbing

  • i've ridden these rims for polo for months, and that is the best test of lateral and radial strength, they've outlasted Object's Halo 29er rims, and never gone out of true. They are tough as fuck. And my friends say they look really fast despite the fact I ride a 45" ratio!

  • who gives a flying turd? people want things to look good, as with most things...cars, clothes and so on. I had deep vs for a while until some fucking gypo robbed that bike. Never had a problem with them, fine. I think they look shite nowadays and are an arse to spoke. I want araya golds for my next nice bike :)

  • well i had a set of velocity aeroheads and prav busted one of those up without even trying.. ;)

got a deep v on there now and it's lasted a couple months so far without a fail. and i got them cause they're yellow.

don't know what you did to your deep v's, but i've had a pair built to ambrosio hubs for my polo wheels for the past year and a half. they are friggin bomb proof, each has about 20 dents due to hard polo balls, i've ridden with 1-2-3 spokes missing, replaced about 20+ spokes, had hundreds of crashes, dropped of stairs, run straight over curbs.

i like open pro's, but no way are they stronger than deep v's.

  • What a great thread

  • one of the best

  • i am strapping the barbed wire around my neck, tying it to the desk and opening the window.

(i am a bit fucken grumpy today - forgive me - 6th day without a sweet, sweet golden soldier)

    :)
