  • Right so, I assume the same rules apply in Ireland.
Maybe I am making too big of a deal of this, never actually tried to remove the brake on my NEW FUJI:D haha

  • Am I right in assuming that you can hire helmets at the track?

Couldn't be buggered shelling out about £70 for a good one only to use it when i'm at the track.

Depends on your definition of good, do you really need it to weigh next to nothing, do you really need it to be super ventilated? The answer is probably not, all of the helmets you can buy will be safe and most will be reasonabley comfortable.

I recently came off, wasn't hit just had an old chain that came apart. My helmet saved my head from a kerb, I'd be dead without it. Still, the broken collarbone was good for a nice big hit of morphine.

  • is the HH jumble still on 2moro? if so, what time is the start and finish??
saw all this info posted in another thread but cant find it. sorry.

    yes.

To be honest i'm not bothered about weight or ventalation, I just don't wanna get one that's gonna be uncomfortable and/or not good enough.

I guess I could always dig out the full face helmet from my mountain biking days =P

  • Just go into a shop and try a couple on.
If you're tight you can then buy the same model and size online.

  • You can try mine one on if you want, giro monza I bought it for £50 at the start of the year and it has a nifty quick adjuster thing on it. I'd suggest just going to a shop and trying some on though.

  • Right, I know this is going to start something, but bear with me here, the only reason i'd be getting a helmet is for a track, so i'd rather not shell out over £50 for something that i'm not even sure how often i'm gonna use, I think i'll try the track, rent a helmet there, and if I like it and want to keep going, i'll get my own. But cheers for your advice, might give your one a try Ed for an idea on the fit, thanks.

  • sounds fair enough, try probikekit if you're looking for a cheaper lid.

  • Cheap lid = protection fail =P

I'd rather have something I fully trust, though I guess if I got a crap one, it would make me more determined to not fall off...

  • note my earlier post....talking to converted much?

  • and i fully agree.

Just got that there now =P

  • no worries.
let me know when you're gonna give it a go and i might see you there.

Well they all have to meet the same safety standards anyway if they wanna be on the market.

Manufacturing standards mean this won't happen (assuming you don't buy some dodgey unbranded thing from the market).

  • Well they all have to meet the same safety standards anyway if they wanna be on the market.

Yeah but theres a basic standard that assumes you are a nodder rolling at 10-15MPH; 25-35mph on a track is a bit different.

If you want to fuck about on a track a cheap helmet is a false economy.

  • What's £50 for a few years racing?
What's £50 for insurance against some horrible head injury?
    Fuck all.

plus, what looks good in hoxton isn't necessarily the same on a track.

  • Ah why do you have to remove the caliper too? Is there any real reason?

it also is much easier to remove the whole shebang. sure you dont fancy messing around with the cable because that's what you need to do to separate lever from brake.
