Its a MTB frame mate.
If you are planning to ride a SS road bikey, and not go off road you don't want one of those trails frames. Its the wrong geometry, heavier and has V brake mounts. Urgh.If you are looking to ride SS on the road then look for an old race frame, they'll be drilled at the back and have a place to put your brake cable. If you are looking to ride off road then go for it I guess. However if you are going to ride on the road go fixed over SS. Having started out with a SS myself I can tell you fixed is a damned sight better and cheaper.

Hi, first post, I'm building up my first fixed gear bike and was wondering whether this is a reasonable/legit deal:
Obviously IRO frames are known to be pretty good, and the frames pictured seem to be pretty much identical when comparing but the unmarked-ness makes me slightly more cautious. I would guess they were bought in a group buy or something.
I don't want to end up with a unipack-esque frame by accident :PCheers,
Olly
Looking at the pictures surely once built the toptube will slope down towards the front of the bike?
The headtube is sitting way up the steerer in the pics and that has the toptube level. -

They look all right to me.

But is advertised as a cyclo cross frame here. -

get this equivalent road ss fg frame rather than what you were looking at. The fork is threadless as well and the frame is similar in shape. From the US though, might have to wait longer, and sometimes you get customs charges.

beware, they look awesome but they are very wide. even with the washers removed from between the cones and locknuts they're still over wide
-
• #8810
awww you spoiled my fun!
yes they are a funky width aren't they... is that why this guy is flogging them cheap. i have no idea, i emailed him to clarify spacing.

• #8811
dunno, got mine for $30 (cheeky offer). it's not that bad really, just gotta have steel forks and not mind spreadin 'em for the boys.
-
• #8812
plus, they need a full regrease when you get them, the grease in them has long since died and dribbles out as a brown oily mess. aside from these foibles, they are pretty cool

510 EUR would have been nice for that Campy Pista 3 years ago... we need to strengthen the pound!

hey came across this bike on gumtree: http://www.gumtree.com/london/58/32510558.html
and was wondering if it would make a good fixed gear to start on or do you think it looks dodgy?
Thanks -

It's a road conversion. The gearing is way too high. The bars are too short. It's a 23" frame (whatever that is in real measurements - how tall are you). No mention of proper fixed hub - could be suicide hub. £250 is excessive for that.
-
• #8818
prolly legit - check whether it's ss or fixed

nothing wrong with any of that - except the suicide hub. £250 is a reasonable price IMO

thanks for the quick replies. i think i'll look round a bit more or maybe just for for a fuji

Nothing wrong with a road conversion, just pointing out it's not a track bike to the person asking.
Gearing is too high = needs a new cog or chainring which = possible new chain.
Old road frames are cheap and this has the potential of being pain in arse french one = fail.
Sizing not an issue but pointing it out to the person.
Hub - unknown
If you pay £250 for that you're a muppet. -
• #8822
could be carbolite but seems to have a microadjust seatpost so it probably isnt, which makes it worth a bit more. still not £250. it seems very mismatched which also doesn't warrant that price. I'd probably pay £150 purely for the sake that it saves the effort of doing your own conversion if you can't be arsed. otherwise , take the £250 and build yourself a much much better one.

Was that the one from the guy on here a few days ago?
The reason I'm tempted is the chap who's selling it is only a 30 mins drive away from me. So I could go and have a proper look before comitting. I'm not too bothered by the braze ons because I would be running brakes on the rear as well.
I'm 5'10-11. So the "Colnago" looks a tad big.
