  • Ok so everywhere I am reading is talking about Rapha this and that 200 quid this and that, Gore Xenon, blah blah.

    I want a decent wind/rain stopped for about £40.

    Ideas?

  • Milletts

  • or HERE

    http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Altura-Nevis-waterproof-cycling-jacket_8908.htm

i've not got one personally, but i've had one to return to a drunken jacket loser since before xmas and the quality/construction looks pretty good.....

but then again, what do i know?

  • dude, there's a search button, just use it. There are plenty of threads about clothing, and plenty of online bike shops (wiggle, chain reaction etc) in which you can find the £40 jacket of your dreams. If you take Rapha out of the mix, you generally get what you pay for.
unlike hippy and being a generous soul and in the spirit of xmas and all, I'd say get something from swrve, their lightweight waterproof is cool, easily scrunched up and keeps most of the rain off, though it the wrists do tend to get a bit damp.

    Search first, ask questions later.

    that is all...

    ps..

all you posters above, are lurking like greyhounds, ready to instruct the neophyte in the ways of the forum. I on the otherhand spend too much time, pontificating about what I should be writing, rather than writing it. huzzah fine forum people.

  • Hey Corny, I usually let the "use the fucking search" message sink in a bit before being helpful. Nyer!

Altura make long lasting, cheap jackets. I bought a £50ish one 2-3 years ago and it's still going strong.

This one, in fact. I'd get a red one now though since this one blends too well with the road.

£63 at Evans but you should be able to find cheaper.. if you SEARCH! :P

  • A bit over budget but nice and red

  • p.s., in the spirit of Christmas, check out the Montanes on wiggle and chain reaction.

  • any good climbing shop will have jackets at 50% off right now
getting rid of the autumnal seasonal colours in with spring '09 fashions

  • I've got this and I'm really happpy with it. It's light warm has a fold away hood, lots of zipped pockets and has survived deluges, leaving me dry. 6 out of five stars.

  • I've found Dhb - Road Cyling seem to give good marks to anything they review of theirs.

And the jack is 40 quid on CRC...

They have these for half price a cycle surgery at the moment...

  • i know there might be a couple of design features for " cycling jackets " which make them slightly better than ordinary jackets but i am sure you are paying a premium price wise and taking a hit quality wise
get down blacks / millets and you'll find something to fit at a decent price

  • Long back, high neck and maybe some reflective are the only cycling specific features I care about.

  • The montane featherweight is great for light showers etc, cheap, wheighs practically nothing and stuffs down to the size of a tangerine.

  • Good thread.......despite the lack of searching......

I Have One Of These And Its Good For Windstopping
And Is As Small As An Apple
But The Rain gets Through Pretty Quick

  • Just ordered the half price Montane H20 on CRC.

I have some shorts from them (I am a walker) and they are superb, so expect this to be similar.

Didnt have fluro, though, only black - but I think there is some reflective stuff on the back anyway.

  • I am a walker.

    Single-speed walker?

  • Yes, no matter how hard I try, I never get any quicker, just amble along at the same speed...

  • gore-tex paclite is where its at....save you're money, you'll have it for yearsssss

  • Montane H20 on CRC.

thats the best jacket, it's windproof also, all weather, totally waterproof

  • didn't say thanks did he

  • Thanks! :)
