  • I'm used to riding around skate parks where you can be as sketchy as you want and you'll only crash due to your own lack of skill which once you know you're limits doesn't happen too often as well as everyone there being cycle minded. I come to ride in London and everyone is fucking nuts! Peds literally running and jumping in front of you, drivers to whom 'Mirror, signal, manoeuvre' is just a vague guideline for when they feel like it. Like I have said at some other point, up until I started courierifying I had had 2 crashes whilst riding on the road and never with a pedestrian, that's now gone up to 12 in the last 4 months.

Your concern is welcome though ;)

Interestingly, I've had proportionally far fewer crashes since I've been a courierer (2 moderately serious spills in 6 months of recreational riding, cf. nothing to speak of in 3 months of 10-hour days). And this week I managed to have two crashes in two days whilst walking (bumped into a tree, and slipped over on an icy boardwalk). It's obviously far safer to ride your bike in busy traffic than to go for a gentle stroll in the country.

However, I may be statistically irrelevant.
