Atlanta
This is the top of the line wind cheater from Campy. The rim weight is a hefty 590 grams. The width if the rim is a thin 19mm and the aero depth is 34mm. This rim is targeted for the time trial or lone rider that is willing to run a skinny sub 23mm tire. You can run any tire you like, but a 20 or 19mm tire will not leave the rim peaking out to plow throught the wind like a wider rim. If you are riding as a single for timed events this may be your rim. The draw backs are the cross wind characteristics are not very good and the ride can be harsh with narrow tires. The benefits are lower wind drag. The rims comes in a single color which is a high polished aluminum with HPW side walls.http://www.campyonly.com/techtalk/techtalk12.htm
It's the one at the back in this pic.

just brought a bike with campag atlanta 1996 rims on it and they **look really suberb **but they do feel quite stiff/rigid (maybe even a little harsh) on the road compared to my mavic open pros.

deep V rims always going to feel really stiff on the road, especially with a 32 holes version.
they weight almost similar to a Velocity Deep V but lighter than a H Plus Son.

Atlantas are designed for 19c tyres,
I've run 23c's on mine though with no problems. -

I agree, I know that chick to see, she's got a great bike. I always see her bike on South William street. I got offered a set of Atlanta's, think I'm gonna go with them, I have a pair of Deep Vs with Dura Ace hubs on my 3Rensho for the past 6 months but I'm bored with them, everyone has them....

Regarding the Shamals I've been told by an TT-oracle that one of the fastest TT stages ever was done on a pair of Shamals by Mr. Indurain. He averaged around 53 km/h on that stage. So considering that, I think it's quite a decent wheel.

Does anyone know much about these rims? I'm forever looking on the bay but either they're super pricey or part of a bike that I don't want. Does anyone know when they stopped being manufactured or how good they are? I see that the Shamals are used on a bunch of TT bikes, often tubs on track bikes but I have seen clinchers for $$$. Not sure what the Atlantas were specced for. Any info much appreciated. Thanks. Jim.
