  • Me too.

  • there's not that much style in London

I took in the whole M25 range at the height of tourist season.

  • They don't have hiphopfixiebikes.. ergo, they are not hipsters.

you dont need a bike to be a hipster, for example 90% of everyone in vice magazine or anyone who wears ironic no-lens glasses is a hipster.

Go hang outside a fashion shop or art school.

  • Go hang outside a fashion shop or art school.

    No thanks.

Typical hipster.. trying to lure fresh meat into their evil fluorescent 80s lairs..

  • is this guy the new MessenJah or what???
    WAC.
    Paul-Michel.....you are annoying.
    Very annoying.
so annoying in-fact, we are not going to talk about this anymore.

Come on, he sounds French which is surely a good thing?
And I still don't understand the 'mass' part of 'mass hipster'?

  • Come on, he sounds French which is surely a good thing?

I don't know how you arrive at this logic.

or whether it's good that he sounds french, or is french.

  • so provided you favour the sidis over the vans/chucks you are free to choose all levels of vac pac jeans... spray ons with elastic in them make the best cycling jeans... they outlive all due to none of that crotch ripping at the nose of the saddle!

  • People who care about the way they look are hispters.
People who picked up a fixed bike after the first 20 people in london started riding fixed are hispters.
People with bikes that include a colour other then black or a colour scheme are hispters
People who do tricks on their fixed wheel bikes are hispters
People who use the term fixie are hipsters
People who use Aeropokes are hispters, but people who abbreviate aerospoke to arrospok (SP?) are not (wtf is that about?)
People who make aesthetic choices alongside or over the top of technical considerations are hispters.
People who ride fixed wheel bikes and are young are hipsters
People who ride fixed wheel bikes and do creative jobs or are students are hipsters.
People who ride fixed wheel bikes just because they think they are the kool are hipsters.

Basically people who ride fixed wheel bikes that some one doesn't like is a hipster.

But its weird. Its meant to be offensive. But usualy labeling something cool is good. I think its really an attempt to attack people with no substance, and is away for people who aren't interested in being kool and trendy to separate themselves from those that appear to be. Both those that want to remain alternative to not let it become mainstream and those that are just not interested in being the guardian's next stereotype use it. The old guarding against the new. But in truth I think its a term used by those who have ridden fixed for a while to seperate and look down on those who have started it up newly. Particularly those of the messenger/punk/alt/clone thing to look down on those who are all shoreditch and mainstreamy. Its a broad term, used by many to mean different things but basically to imply a lack of originality and bandwaggoning, and as with most terms like that is often mis-used and overused.

You may have guessed I don't like it. Its a stupid term designed to create a hierarchy within those who ride fixed wheel bikes rather then create community, or at least a tiered one with the users of the term at the top and subjects of the term at the very bottom.

And as you can probably guess I get called a Hipster and definitely tick a few of the boxes for the term. I like riding bikes and I have a sense of style. So fucking what?

  • The hipster, much like crack, is there to keep the blackman down

  • Holy shit! You've found the only thread on the forum I've not commented on!
Jul, Sep, Aug = Dark Times

  • get involved then! you're still nowhere near your 20,000!

  • People who make aesthetic choices alongside or over the top of technical considerations are hispters.

No, these people are called Italians ...:)

  • There seem to be quite a few Brits exhibiting this trait too.. Captain Campag. :P

    That's why it's n+1 anyway.. one workhorse + one sunday best :)

  • And well if ya hadn't guessed after all that, its in your attitude, man... or woman or what ever indiscriminate gender technicolor backward circling half way 'tween a greasemonkey and a bleedin hippie confirmation of dissatisfaction, your leg is hangin off the side of... and count yourself lucky you aint a ped... get with the bleedin' revolution or walk...

  • Really, 'hipster' is just short for 'hippyster' , the followers of hippy. Basically, everybody on this forum is a hippyster, as no-one comes close to his post count and all we can do is follow.

    Oh yeah ...

    YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.

  • is if 'aesthetics' were a dirty word or something
