  • Hi 50/14, your reputation preceeds you ;-), the other bike belongs to my other half. Yes I have heard about Norths :-(

  • I've just registered, so just saying hi to everyone. Looks like a real good site!

    Cheers n Beers,

    Dan

  • just regestered myself, looking into converting my rockhopper to a fixed road. not even sure if this is a good idea, complete newboob. happy christmas guys

  • Vertical dropouts = more trouble than it's worth. Oh, unless it's quite an old Rockhopper with semi-horizontal dropouts?

  • hi hippy, cheers for the quick response. its pretty old, i've had it about 3 years and a friend had it a couple too. looking at it just now it looks like semi drops.... i think lol oardon the ignorance

  • actually its not looking like there is much travel as far as i can see. i'll get some pics up for you guys to point me in the right direction.... again apologies for the complete newb questions.

Wow, I never knew that. Belle and Sebastian are the only thing I've ever voted for that wasn't a politician.

  • thanks Hippy. much appreciated

  • wel its looking like a vertical so not sure if something like an Eno is worth it or getting a completely new frame.

  • having done a bit of looking it may be my worth while getting something like a Pista 08 or 09 for starters. love the look of them too.

  • Usually better to turn MTBs into SS, with the help of a chain tensioner. You don't want pedal-strike on a rock or something when doing a technical manoeuvre, etc.

  • i only want to get back on it for road use really. its grat on dirt but feels soft for road and want something i can go faster on road with. cant deny i love the look of the sinlge/fixed more simple design of the road bikes. just wondering if i go for a Bianchi pista or fanny on modding what i have and no doubt spending loads getting it how i would like it.

please bare in mind i'm a complete new guy to all this so again sorry if i sound ... well.... new lol

    Velocome!

whats your budget, whered you live?

  • I'm in sunny Cheshire.

Budget is around 500-600 but I have quite specific needs.

  • Which are?

  • Well basically I want to build a fixed TT bike, and thought it would be good to get a track bike and slap some tri bars on it. But options seem limited tbh.

I was thinking about buying a cheap bike like a fuji, swapping bars, fork, wheels (well, everything but the frame+crank) and use that.

    Any thoughts?

    also, 5th post.

  • See if you can find the fixed TT bike on here. HED Jet wheels

  • Can't search for "TT"

  • hi new to forum, just getting my 5th post out the way ao i can make a WANTED ad in classified, apologies. cheers and HNY, hotters

  • I'm new, have posted some. Mostly lurking. Its a good forum for picking up bits of info, kudos to all inputing. I ride an old raliegh charlton I picked up via the aptly named freecycle. Drive train ground to a halt quickly after, therefore became a fixed gear conversion. Really enjoy riding her around, nice geometry, slightly too big but comfortable.

What is TT an abbreviation of?

  • Hello all - just saying hi - haven't rode for about 10 yrs - built a fixie from bits lying around in the college bike shed - but it wasn't very reliable! Dropped it touring in the cotswolds, and bent the frame. Anyway - looking to buy a bike soon - any hints on search parameters so I don't ask a very FAQ - budget is £300, needs mudguards and rack. Don't mind 2nd hand, don't mind building from scratch.

    Top tube? ;)

What did you mean re: "the fixed TT bike on here. HED Jet wheels"
I searched all the likely words on here, even did TT through google, no luck :(
