watch for ripples.

in my nipples?
-
• #4
I managed to lace my rear pretty easily, got JimBilly to tension/true it as I had no idea what I was doing and didn't have a truing stand... What's the problem?
-
• #5
ah i see where i fucked up, schoolboy error
-
• #6
i found mine easier to build than my velocity, but it may be because it was my second build bit more experience. found it relatively easy to true and have not touched it since. good luck.

after i'd threaded the first lot for each side i started dropping the second lot for one side on the same side of the hub as opposed to the other side. didnt take too long to undo but explained why the nipples were so hard to get on!
still finding i have to drop the nipples into the inside of the rim then push them through with a screwdriver.

• #8
thread the nipples one turn, the opposite way round onto a spare spoke and use that to poke them through.
-
• #9
ah thanks, good tip...
-
• #10
Yup, that's what I did... Bloody impossible otherwise...
-
• #11
You need a nipple clamp or nipple guide. No more losing them in the gap.
-
• #12
how is building these hard, i built mine in 45 minutes. Use a spare spoke to feed the nipple through the rim, the rest is the same as any other wheel really.

Or you need to try this technique...

I'm building a H+ rim onto a goldtec hub
3-leading 3-trailing (36 Spoke)I'm having trouble determining the correct spoke length
Blb sayed 264mm on the phone
Edd spoke calc says 264.5 (3X)Now the problem i'm having is this:
http://www.baldurdash.org/OtherStuff/3leading3trailing.html
says to add 1-2mm for this specific lacing patternSo its between 264 and 266mm
Would 264mm be too short
Would 266mm be too longIf anyones got any experience with this i'd be rather grateful

• #15
depends if you go over and under the spokes.
3-cross and 3 lead-3trail are different ;) -
• #16
Either is fine, 266 would be easier to lace up & get in the nipples though.
-
• #17
Great cheers!
Edd the spoke calculator didnt specify for 3 lead 3trail so i had to go for 3XI need to make room for the crosses but dont want to run out of thread.
The pattern for 3 spokes goes:
1 - Under, under, over
2 - Under, over, under
3 - Over, under, overA little confusing, but if all goes well will be a lovely wheel

under, under, over.
doing the second over is too tight. well on the first one (usually all for normal 3x), but might be able to do it with outer.
if it's the first time you do it, it will get a little messy with all the bends

Cheers dogballs, 266mm it is then?

cos i've never built a wheel, any wheel, at all, ever, before...
-

266mm on a 12mm nipple
-
• #22
hmm, so i've done over, over, under... what pattern is that?
-
• #23
same, but backwards
-
• #24
Anyone fancy helping me determine the correct spoke length for these rims to formulas 3X ?
-
• #25
are you planning to take them on circuit?
anyone built their own? first wheel build for me, using the videos from the bike tube as a guide, must be easier with less deep rims as these are a nightmare!
