Making stickers/decals

  • i recently had my frame re-sprayed and now i want to put some nice graphics onto it to finish the job. i didnt have a fancy respray so no clear coat.

i have the graphics, but im not sure how to get them into a sticky backed form.

i thought that i would be able to easily get hold of some kind of paper that i could print on with a standard inkjet or laser printer, but it doesnt seem to exist in any of the shops ive tried.

i dont know about getting it printed proffessionally, as id imagine it would be pretty expensive when i only want 3 stickers.

also it would be good if they could hold up to the weather, and not need replacing too often.

  • If you are looking for a cheap option there are lots of waterproof self adhesive inkjet stocks on ebay.
If you get some I'd love to see the outcome. Or maybe I could buy a sheet from you to test.

  • there is a water slide (transfer paper) you can get for home printers, its for people in to model planes and the like, try looking for it in the model magazines in smiths

  • i used my schools laser cutter to make some supercomplicated vinyl stickers a few weeks ago. easy and so much fun. they looked shit hot too.

  • I reckon if they're single coloured, you should definitely go down the vinyl route. although it seems hard to find to do it. I'm quite interested in doing it myself.

  • water slide transfers are only worth using if your going to clear coat them right? remebering back to my airfix days i remeber being able to scratch them with my nail.

JOL- ill give those a look. i much prefer buying small stuff from shops if i can. the intenet is there for when i absolutly cant get hold of it.

  • I really want to get some vinyl stickers done for my bike as its completely plain atm. I e-mailed a couple of places for quotes and they all said around £70 for a few, simple, plain colour vinyl stickers.

The annoying thing is, I actually own a vinyl plotting machine, but its old, and the instructions are in engrish, and I cant get it to work. I need to find a copy of an ancient program called plt-draw i think.

edit-Found a copy, will try and make some vinyl transfers.

  • London Graphic Center sell tose a4 vynal sheets for inkjet printing i think, not exactly small but its not ebay..
