  • No by millenium point I meant, the private car park that runs alongside curzon st railway.

I think half of it is used as avis car rental.

wanna meet me one eve this week and go check it out?

  • Why don't we do a behemoth of a day? Meet at around two, get in a nice daylight ride. Pub.Races at say five/six. Drinks, meal. Night time ride w/ more drinking.
    no?

    no?
    Bingo.

Im up for an epic day of pootling about on the ol velocipede.

But we need to actually plan some decent fun stuff to do, so people will come.

Anyone got ideas for a longish ride & either a place to go eat (if early) or some kind of party to go to? (if late)

  • yes, meet at 2 and then meet more people at 4.30
    then everyones happy

  • Yep, excellent. Teew is a genius.

  • I don't know Birmingham anywhere near well enough to plan any rides but as a general set up I think that would work pretty well. If someone in or within bikeable distance from Brum would be up for throwing a party that would be wicked and, if not, there's always pubs or - my personal favourite - biking around until we find somewhere nice outside and HTFU or inside and settle there for drinks. The focus should definitely be on hanging out, chatting with loads of awesome biking as well.
    But that's at the end.
If someone who knew the town better could sort out some vague plan for a daytime ride or night time one that would be rockin'. Otherwise there's games of which we have the possibility of:
    -Foot-Down
    -Knock Out Sprints
    -Track Standing Competition
    -Ice-Skidding Competition
obviously these are just ideas, thoughts?
I'll happily design some spoke cards centering around the theme of stuck in the midlands for winter if this is gonna go ahead.
As I said though, focus on hanging out - all those games aren't going to end up with us all alone racing around in the cold.
    Any other ideas?
    Let's get a list going:

    1. teew
    2. os r
    3. aeronaught
    4. deadly fanny pack
    5. BlowieBen
    6. Ste_S
    7. Pezza
    8. Hyper Allah
  • Cool. so the basics are agreed right? meet at 2pm at pigeon park... do some 'stuff' then meet the others at 4.30pm then do more 'stuff' with racing and games and things, then boozer or cafe....
Im putting this up today on spinwell so hopefully we can entice mo folks to get involved!!!

Teew! yes man do those spokecards!!! I also plan on doing some spinwell ones for folks who are down.

    should be a good craic.

  • We could do a slow race (ie last person over the line wins...Trackstand!)

Also, I know we don't have tall bikes but bike jousting? I'd be happy to try and make a pole with pillows on the end.

  • when everything's confirmed send me the details and i'll copy and paste it on fixuplooksharp

  • Sadly - I'm overseas for Chrimbo, or else we could just come back to mine once depleted - I could be the most central member here?
Just want to say a Merry Christmas to all those riding in and around Brum, hope it turns out to be a good day on Sunday. Someone please take heaps of photo's so i can see them whilst i'm in Seattle.
    Cheers

  • Aaaarrrrrrrgggggghhh! cant make sunday now. Will be cruising around city centre early saturday if anyones about but will def be there for next ride.

  • trackstand comp sounds good

  • I've thought of how I can make lances for bike jousting, it'll be very easy - anyone interested?

I'm so down with that idea, do it!

    Fists?
No seriously are we agreed on the following?

We need to put a lid on this before it gets out of hand... we also need to to get more people down and as Messenjah says, when we have the deets he will copy n paste into fixup so lets decide on whats going down and have a bumper chri$tma$ !

  • yep, sounds good to me.

  • [quote=aeronaught;425485]Fists?

    yes

  • Yes!
    Spoke cards done!
    Simple and involving Nick Owen.

Meet at 2:00 and hang out, ride a bit and generally just hang out till 4:30
By 5:00 we leave the bullring stairs to do stuff. This idea of going out to one of these industrial car parks or disused air strips sound great, anyone got any more precise ideas?
Make our way back in and go to the pub/for food and then scoot out for one final night time ride.
    But yeah, essentially:
    2:00 at Bullring Stairs
    -hang out
    4:30 meet at the stairs
Leave by 5:00/when numbers are up.
    -track stands, jousting, skidding etc...
Either go to a car park orr we could just bike around Birmingham and, when we find an area which suits each respective task, go crazy.
    Pub/Food
possibly another ride for the hXc among us.

How does that sound? I'm shit at sounding organised, does someone else want to make it sound all ordered 'n shit?
    -t

  • Checked out the area in front of millenium point, its only got about a 100metres of clear run.

And its bumpy. Will look for other sites, perhaps just a street like halloween?

  • perhaps just a street like halloween?

Longer, Flatter, Straighter. enough spinning to bring on the vom. ALSO ( I might add ) ENOUGH ROAD FOR THE FOLKS WITH CLIPS TO CATCH UP ( and overtake ) THE CLIPLESS CREW!

  • Confirmed!!!

    peep the post here

    Looking forward to this!

  • You've mentioned meeting at both 2pm and 4.30pm at Pigeon Park on your blog.

Meet 4.30pm at Pigeon Park for the racing, right ?

Hmmmm... you had me a bit worried then!
I have just checked it and it defo says meet at St Martins church at the Bullring for both 2pm and 4.30pm. Probably easier if we leave it at that now as its closer to digbeth and closer to the runway!
I think you may be on about St Philips Cathedral which is in pigeon park.

    word up.
    *
    heres the cut n paste.*

Christmas is upon us and what better way to celebrate than to meet up with your fellow cyclists and have a little mess about.

This coming Sunday ( 21st ) at 2pm we will meet outside St Martins Church ( the bottom of the stairs at the Bullring )for a quick natter and a catch up. Then it is off for a cycle around town to get some air in the lungs and upset one or two motorized vehicle operators, then back to st Martins at 4.30 to meet the second bunch of joiners. Once fully assembled we head to the previously scouted race track where we duel for the title of the fastest person on two wheels… a drag race people!

At some point during the day there will be a Trackstand off, a Joust off, and maybe a skid off… so get training!

As this event has been organized at such short notice there will be no prizes other than brotherly love and praise for your speed and elegance on a cycle, Unless I can blag something between now and then! We will see.

After the race for those who want to talk spinning techniques or perhaps basque in the glory of winning we will head to a public house for alcohol or to a cafe for tea and biscuits.

So friends there we have it. the Birmingham X-Mass.

Please, tell all your friends, young or old, brakes or none to get down to St Martins church at the Bullring at 2pm ( or 4.30 ) on Sunday and lets have a raz…

  • Bah, I'll try and read properly next time !

Edit - Ahh you changed it, hence the source of my confusion. Original version read :

This coming Sunday ( 21st ) at 4.30pm we will meet at Pigeon Park for a natter and maybe a cup of tea. Then it is a little cycle around town and on to the Drag strip… a carefully selected piece of road down in the depths of Digbeth, then… RACE.

As this event has been organized at such short notice there will be no prizes other than brotherly love and praise for your speed and elegance on a cycle. I will also try my damned hardest to get some spokecards done on time for the brave and for the strong ( everyone who comes ).

After the race for those who want to talk spinning techniques or perhaps basque in the glory of winning we will head to a public house for alcohol or to a cafe for tea and biscuits… whatever the majority votes for.

So friends there we have it. the Spinwell X-Mass meet.
Please, tell all your friends, young or old, brakes or none to get down to pigeon park at 2pm on Sunday and lets have a Drag race.

  • Won't be there now. Got dropped and bonked on my clubs run, suffered for 20 miles back home. Can't even look at a bike at the moment. That's probably what a bottle of wine, half a bottle of ouzo and five hours sleep the night before does to you :(
