they are your own little mobile fortress, phone booth, disco, kitchen, restaurant, bedroom and office, a shield against responsibility and blame and can be used as a deadly weapon without fear of breaking the law, basically they piss all over guns.
I expect this is how the Empire managed to get away with the Death Star
