That Orchid show looks amazing. I fooking love playing gigs on the floor. Stages are just shite really, aren't they?
Hassan, Ed bought the Coalesce DVD. 6 hours' worth of footage. By eck.

stages are just seperation
unless its a really packed gig where you can just go nuts and stagedive
theres no need for a stage -

This thread encouraged me to go and scope out some new music - found Honour Among Thieves' myspace (for some reason I thought it had been deleted) and it turns out they are giving the latest tunes out for free - this makes me especially happy since I missed their last show a month or two ago.
Sheep if you read this, the EP is awesome - thanks.

WOW, never thought I would see those band names in here. You got some good taste. (except the screamy postHC unless your talking botch type stuff?).
That suicide file show was very disapointing.
I've been going to shows now for fuck uh 15+ years, london for 3years.
I used to just turn up late to shows here to only see the touring bands.London hardcore bands are gerneraly pretty shit there are a few exceptions though.
About it being elitist that's only if you look at it that way, pretty much the same as the "fixed" scence if you think about it. Not saying there isn't a bunch of cunts but there are alot of good people.
Alone in A Crowd were great. Love Atari, Swiz, YOT, Barfight. Someone said Twelve Hour Turn - used to like them too, No Idea Records are a bit hit and miss though, but I went deep into that whole postHC screamy business for a while (doesn't everyone?) too.
I think the London scene is terrible, I've been into hardcore for 10 years now, and living in London for 3 of them. I never liked shows down here much - used to come for special occassions, when the band wasn't playing in my area or I just had to see every single show.... but it's largely too fragmented and very rough. The last proper show I went to in London was the Suicide File at some random small pub in Camden. Pretty rubbish TBH,

I'm sure I saw Snuff with King Prawn one time
I used to love Imbalance and Indecision, and, erm, well it was years ago and I've a shit memory, but those two stick out the most
Is it a bad idea to admit that I used to really like Assert?

Oh, the fucking Filaments as well, I used to fucking love them. In fact I still do, but you know.
-
• #62
snuff with king prawn? at the monarch barfly in camden? my band supported the filaments once, interesting guys.

• #63
yer it is an elitist thing
but generally if you show respect
and get to know people
its really friendly
uk stuff up north is more fast
while down south generally beatdown
obviously theres exceptions
abandon ship being one -

I love this thread. I had to get the Tube this morning (stupid battered body and bike, curses) - so I got to listen to my iPod, which I hardly ever do:
Moss Icon
Nerve Agents - I love Unit Pride and Redemption 87, Eric Ozenne is my vocal hero.
The Faint (...ahem)
Ladytron
Some Girls (do not get!)
Quicksand
Mates of State...an example of other stuff I like. Scrapper I'm glad you appreciate my taste! I also really loved that whole wave of '97-98 hardcore - In My Eyes, Ten Yard Fight, Floorpunch (ok, Floorpunch is a bit of a joke tbh, but they're pretty funny). I'm a fan of Hassan's music too - Orchid, Hot Cross - brilliant. Carpenter Ant, Mohinder, Waifle, anyone?
I saw Fugazi in '99 at the Garvey in Notts - a weird show for me, big stage, no pit. I say - All ages no stages please! But Guy Picciotto stood next to me watching the support bands, so that made my night in a big way.
I agree with gogosama that it looks elitist to those who don't know people/have friends at shows. But the North is definitely friendlier - I miss it dearly!
We should start a LFGSS hardcore social group or something...

Filaments who were from Essex way? I used to see them all the time at Army&Navy in Chelmsford. One of my mates was related to them somehow. Really, really good band.

There are a shitload of amazing bands going around. In the last 10 years there has been a bit of a melting pot happening between the Punk Rock and Garage Rock scenes. It's a pretty psychotic and amazing result. Like the bastard child of Black Flag, Wire, MC5, The shirells and Tubeway Army.
Jay Reatard is an amazing example! Check out The Hunches, The Reatards, The Frustrations, The Cheeps, Functional Blackouts, The Real Losers etc. There are absolutly tons of amazing bands going on right now. Tons of great labels on the go right now too! Shit Sandwich, Shattered, Slovenly, Daggerman and on and on!It totally depends on your version of puck rock whether you will like it or not. A really great place to find out what is going on is at the Horizontal Action website.

Yes. I was very heavily into it in the '80s and '90s. Scenester stuff and big time record trading. The sort of person that has 100+ copies of MRR stuck in a cupboard and has records spanning more than one room. Over the years it sort of descended into a nerdish obsession and I drifted away from bands but I still love the music.
Saw a lot of the old bands too, Poison Idea, DOA, Bad Brains etc.. but missed Black Flag and the DK's
