MattO: it is/was my 'suicide ride', it added a little adrenaline to my daily commute :P
Hmm Im trying out suicide brakes tomorrow, bad idea? - Cause those ordinary brakes just aren't exciting enough.
Ive never actually seen anoyone attach a brake to their stem, so this could be patenting opportunity :) excitingEddie

if you need the brake (which I assume you do as you're not running sans-brake) I doubt that will end well.
nice looking lugs though.
-
• #3309
someone did attach a brake to their stem, on the front park, how are you going to be able to use it thought?
and what handlebar is that, or did that come with the bike?
-
• #3310
watch your throat when you're riding in the drops
-
• #3311
brakes on any part of the bike that isn't the bars is almost certainly a bad idea.
Also don't you have a freewheel on that bike? (You had a cassette on a few pages back). Are you going to install a back brake too?
-
• #3312
woah that spells all types of fail, aesthetically and also brake through the throught fail.
PLEASE DONT RIDE WITH THAT.

You can use the brake either one hand on the bars and the other pushing the lever forwards. Or both hands on the bars, lean forwards and brake with your crotch (but moving your weight to the front and hitting the front brake is a good chance to kiss the asphalt :))
The bars came with the bike, just the standard english-built "Dawes" bars. Are you going to install a back brake too?
ammmmmn, no. -

HAHAhahahaaaaa!
-
• #3315
ammmmmn, no.
you're riding a singlespeed bike, it's essential to have two brakes on your bike, the reason why fixed wheel bicycle only need one on the front since you already have a fixed wheel to 'brake' with your legs.
how are you going to control your braking in poor condition? (i.e. ice, wet, greasy, etc.), and most especially on corner where rear brake tend to be idea?
-
• #3316
agreed, two brakes on single speed, 1 on a fixed.
dont argue with people who ride these bikes everyday, you will lose like everyone before you.
be sensible its not fashionable to bleed out your eyeball.

plus the brake levels is a health risk, what happen if you have a slip on the road? crash on the back of a van, or god forbid, hit a pothole? chance are the brake levels will hit your chest and quite possibly stab you, take it off for your own safety mate, I'm serious.
if you're really riding singlespeed, with all due respect, ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MIND???
-
• #3318
Put that brake where it belongs. Then put the other one on too.
I mean that is just asking for trouble, you want brakes where you can access them without having to take hands off the bars. -

i'd be more worried about being deaf and riding brakeless.
(with all due respect..)

I've made a vow 2 years ago that I won't go brakeless unless I can able to do certain skid-stop manoeuvre properly, unlike some fashionsta who went into BLB and got a brakeless bike without even learning how to ride fixed wheel in the first place.
plus, just use your eyes more often, your eyes don't lie to you as much as your ears does.

dudes, i know why fixed bikes have only a front brake and why you need both brakes for, not that thick. Besides, I ride a motorbike as well and know how important both brakes are.
I just havent put a rear brake on my push bikes for the last three years and thats how I ride. If its rainy or sonwy i do front wheel slides. I just simply cant live without excitment so I come up with random ideas to entertain me. The fact of the matter is, Ill get bored of that brake and put it somewhere else or make it into a fixie and remove the front brake altogether.
Dont take this as an offence, and i am thanlkful for the advice but without stupidiness - I'm not me
It was nice too see how you reacted though, again, no offence

It's things like this that ruin it for us all.

The Trach Brake

I'm lost for word, really I am if excitement is having little or no brake and almost crashing than speeding through traffic zipping between cars.
-
• #3325
I just don't understand why? It looks absurd.
edit: no need to answer that, I did see the bit about you needing excitement (i.e. absurdity) in your life
^ looking good mate!
