BTW, if people tell you the traffic's bad there it's nothing compared to London, riding round is easy easy - and Madrid is small, so you can cover a lot of ground without any problems. Do be careful about locking/hiding away your bike, I was told they go in seconds flat over there (much like here). Fortunately most hotels, apartment blocks, etc have big hallways and so on, so off-street locking isn't hard. All the places I stayed over there they were more than happy to tuck my bike away somewhere safe inside the building.
