Use Ring-O-Star headset adjuster

  • Anyone have any experiance/thoughts about the USE Atom stem. It comes with something called a Ring-O-Star, which is used instead of a bolt and star nut. The idea is to save weight and reduce damage to steerers (especially carbon ones).

    I really like the clean look, light weight, and nad/knee friendly design.

  • hopeful bump before this is dumped.

  • Hi, my first post... anyway i had a Dolan with an Atom one piece carbon stem and bars with the ring-o-star setup. It looked quality but I found it couldn't put enough pressure on the headset, which caused a fair amount of play, especially when you ride over any bumps. I thought I had a faulty ring-o-star, so I ordered another one but it was just the same. They look great but for me the play and movement was inexcusable.

  • If you don't want to use a star nut, you can try a Hope Head Doctor. Have one on a bike now. Seems to be working great. Don't think there are any weight savings though.

  • Unfortunately with the atom bars you have to use the ringo widget as there's no access from the top. But if you go for a different stem then i'd also recommend the Hope Head Dr.

  • Yup head doctor great bit of kit

  • Cheers I was thinking of getting a Hope headset anyway. This stem just caught my eye as it is heavily reduced on CRC as is the USE atom flat bar.

    @tedders
    I would be putting it on a single speed 29r with rigid forks. So it would need to cope with both sharp bumps, and me throwing my weight around in a vain attempt to climb mountains sans gears. That'l be a no then :)

    Cheers for the input, and welcome to the forum.
