Well done mate, i've been in a smilar (job related not the other stuff) situation in the past for other reasons, it turns out leaving/being asked to leave was one of the best things I could have done, i'm now in a job where i'm earning more money and working with great people, and more importantly much happier, good luck mate :)

Not wanting to be negative but don't you think spending any money (apart from essentials) is a bit frivolous. Im sure your kid would be happy with a happy father rather than an ostentatious present. Maybe a few smaller presents would be better?
Im only saying this because in the present climate having something to fall back should be a primary concern.
