  • i destroyed my left knee playing football 4 years ago a had to have two rounds of keyhole to scrap the debris out. I have around 20% of the original mass left now.
the docs gave me the choice to stop playing any sport and probably keep my knee for the rest of my life or continue being active and probably have to have the knee stripped and plated or entirely replaced at some point in the future. i opted for the later and havent had any problems since.
stick to the physio its invaluable. ive have taken glucosamine but found it to be of little benefit. best thing to do is to strengthen the muscles around the joint. this helps control it and prevent further damage whilst maintaining range of motion. i now have a higher range of motion in the damaged joint than the undamaged joint. i was also provided with far to many post op painkillers and as a result developed a mild addiction to them, which whilst pleasant enough at the time wasnt very useful when i was try to finish my phd.
    moral of the story:
get the surgery and exercise the joint a lot but carefully after the knife to build musculature.
