Where was it I heard that saving weight on you wheels saves you far more than the equivelent weight somewhere else on your bike? Something to do with centripetal forces or sum such!
Reducing rotational weight has more of an impact on performance, yes. Reducing the larger outermost weight has a greater effect, so tyres and tubes and rim weight play a massive part in weight-related performance.
Ignoring any physics and related toss for a second, think about this:
If you don't finish a race because your wheel falls apart, it doesn't matter how light your bike is, does it? -

Thing is, my neck is the structure itself, single wall rims definitely do the job, and as there will still be lots of meat left on the 2nd wall, it should be fine. I'm not talking about completely fucking the rims, but, drilling a sensible amount in there won't affect them too much negatively.

Once you've cut all those holes you had better be filing them and hoping there's no swarf in your rim... LONG!

Shit the bed - after all that's been said you're still thinking about doing it.
Seriously - have a poo - it'll get rid of way more weight than drilling.

oh yeh, hipster specials
basically go on that site where the rims are, then go on the trials section and most parts can be gotten in fluo or something

Ok fat pants, if your gonna do this you should do it properly, you'll need a before and after weight and probably time yourself riding up a big old hill before and after in similar conditions and tell us how much of a difference (if any) there was

ask m.barrymoore, he drills rims very well

you could try not riding a bike at all, that'd save some weight.
Err, think this may be a little more relevent. Basically says, improving aero is far better than lightening wheels, the amount of weight you lose is so insignificant it makes little difference. Go for aero rather than destroying perfectly good rims I think is the general consensus.
And good night!
