Fixed gear shops?

  • I'm heading into bristol tommorrow and was wondering if there are any bike shops that cater for us folk? I after some fixed sprockets ideally.

  • Not really Im afraid.
The odd nice vintage campag piece occasionally turns up in bristol bike workshop but thats about it.
I would suggest heading into bath, freshtripe is based there.

  • Where abouts are Freshtripe in Bath? I'm guessing they don't have a shop.

  • Im not sure, all I know is that theyre based there

  • Freshtripe are virtual. I've just taken delivery of some Oury grips from them, good service, nice design connections!

  • does freshtripe have a shop in bath i'm considering a trip over there to visit family!

  • No.

Johns Bikes in Bath are good though.

  • I'll check that out then, is there much interest in bath for fixed then or ...

  • No it's just a good bike shop.

  • This may be obvious, but don't ever go to Cyclelife on Stokes Croft. Just had a very bad experience with the 'mechanic' fitting my lockring with a hammer despite me asking him if he had the right tool and that I had a hammer and screwdriver myself. Just enforces my view that I'm going to buy the tools and do the fixing myself in future. In general, bike shops suck, why is this?

  • In general, bike shops suck, why is this?

You cant really make this generalisation based on one bad experience.

  • Erm, I didn't, I've had plenty of bad service from lots of different shops. There are a few good ones out there (strada, Bike Workshop, Bike), but I would struggle to say any of them are excellent for choice, service, knowledge etc. Anyway, I seem to be getting people's backs up today so I'm going to fuck off! See ya.
