his pricing is competitive but unless you can see a frame up close (like you can in BLB or putney cycles with Bob Jackson) or he puts bigger and better pics on his site Laahndan people are more likely to stick with what they know.
his frames may be the shizzle but people in london can't see that from his marketing. -
• #5
Perhaps he needed Dafoney to sort out his marketing....
-
• #6
get back in-line, he has some important work to do for me first.
-
• #7
Where's his website?
-
• #8
an odd question, as it would depend on what they look like, ride like, etc.
Also bear in mind that 531 is a very average tubeset, mainly for cunts.

Super awesome cnuts, mind.

£30 would ensure they'd all sell pretty well, unless they're shit. Anything over £50 and it has to be really nice to get ppl to look (imo). Anything over and you may as well hunt down something with nicer tubing.

Just the replies I had expected. Thanks chaps.

BLB are doing 'their' frames for £300.
so thats your figure i guess.
Bobs are £345.
priced in between or lower i guess.this place is annoying me now.
Edit: acc. Goff's site (http://www.steve-goff-frames.co.uk/frames.shtml) he does a frameset for £375 out of 'awesome'

His site lists 531 frames at £290. Out of our league methinks.
Still, I wish I'd had a look at his steel forks before getting hold of my Tange fork a few weeks ago.
Anyway, you have to be a front bottom to ride 531 these days!

"His site lists 531 frames at £290. Out of our league methinks."
really? people seem prepared to import used japanese frames that are too small for them and pay a lot more than that.
they may be out of your league but i think that's a good price for a U.K. built frame.

OK, I was speaking for myself. My dream bike is a slightly better beater than the one I'm running about on now. Last frame I bought cost 60gn with a whole spare bike for parts. Sure £290 is a good price for a handbuilt steel frame. But with Bobs and all sorts out there his won't sell like the warm bun the OP mentioned without something special or a special price.I got the feeling from his website that forks were extra, too.

I think the OP is suggesting that the FB build a run of OTP rather than M2M and thus lower the RRP.

Oh wait I was thinking you meant old 2nd hand frames. Apologies.

"new" 531
isn't that an oxymoron.
whatever, they don't say what the rear triangle is made of. might be 4130 for all you know, 531 main tubes won't make a lot of difference

Yeah that struck me as odd today, didn't they stop making 531?

SG is sitting on a stock of 531c. Can't comment on rear triangles, but I'll ask him tomorrow when I speak to him re some touch up paint I need.
Great frames and awful marketing.

I spoke to Steve and he clarified that if he sells you a 531 frame, it is 531 throughout including the stays.

I am poor,
but would pay £200 for a good brand new 531 track/street frame & fork.
Sure its less than a bob or a mercian, but 531 is antique crap tubing in comparison to real cyclists* - and importantly you said SELL QUICKLY
at £200 I think they would sell quickly, and he would get a fair profit. I think the selling quickly bit is most important to the builder, plus the fact he gets to do them as a batch - all with standard measurements. Nice & quick a solid few months of work.
( *not me )

you may be poor but then so is a U.K. framebuilder who's going to build one and sell it at £200inc vat.
What price point would cause a nice new 531 track frame/fork combo to sell like a warm bun?
Living within 10 mins ride of Steve Goff's workshop, I head up there quite a bit when I need parts. Considering suggesting to him that he do a run of frames too appeal to you folks on this forum (and others on ebay). I do not know if he'd be up for it, but I just would like to know at what price they'd have to go out for them to sell quickly. Next time I head up I may suggest the idea to him.
