  • just a thought, has anyone raced a bike copper? they have em a lot in the square mile but i never run into them when im on my bike. chances are they'd get blown out of the water in a race and call for motorized back up

  • Weaving through traffic is an offence? I've got no problem paying the £30 for a RLJ but not sure about paying anything for weaving through traffic. Unless it was done dangerously.

  • I do find skitching much less useful riding fixed.

Also, what the frik? Why can't you cycle on the fly over? I always cycle on fly overs and have had many many police cars drive by while I was doing it.

  • Me and the rest of the uxbridge guys got pulled the other week by an unmarked car for weaving in between the traffic and maybe a rlj I didn't really hear properly though. Elguapo dealt with them and they let us off.

IMO police are more cuntish or not depending on your first reaction. when i was fined they boxed me into the bus lane jumped out and shouted "what are you doing, running 3 red lights then turning around to wave at us" i replied in a raised voice and then they got worse. if you act calmly and firnedly straight away instead of defensive then your more likely to be let off

  • +1 to being reasonable. I usually say, ok - went through a red light, sorry about that.

  • "what are you doing, running 3 red lights then turning around to wave at us"

    Brilliant

  • well i didnt actually turn around to wave, i turned around to see if my friend made it through the zebra crossing. honestly i find the best answer to "why did you just run that red light?" is

"I wouldn't have done it if i knew you were there"

We also got pulled over for riding side by side, when there were no other cars on the road, except the popo on the outside lane. Good to see them cracking down on serious criminals...

  • You could always say the lorry driver was trying to kidnap you (and your bike) and you were in the middel of a dairing escape.

I'll definitely keep that one in mind when I get back to my geared roadie

    Now there's an idea...

  • Got caught couple of weeks ago. Stopped at a junction for ages with no traffic coming across, so rode over, only to be met by a copper jumping in my way waving me to 'pull over'. £30. I don't see any of the 1001 peds jumping in my way getting a ticket. I should have mounted the pavement, crossed over and hopped back onto the road. Just the same, but he wouldn't have had any cause to stop me, even though it would have been more dangerous for the peds and me.

Also got £20 ticket this week for failing to zap my oyster on the free/bendy bus to an job interview. D'oh!

Ask Chris Crash about his 'attempt' to roller race a bike cop on the Rollapoluzza stand at the Tour of Britain in the summer. ;)

be sure to look both ways - for coppers - before crossing

    You are completely correct.

If you have to ask you should be allowed.

  • Monday- 30 pounds on the spot RLJ bank 4pm.
Tuseday- 60 pounds skitching a lorry and riding on the flyover, Hammersmith Flyover 10:30am

thas money that i could have used to fund my drug habit. any one else notice a police crack down or do i have bad luck.

So are you going for a high score? You probably should.

I used to 'skitch' but its bloody stupid. I got a bit of a scare one day and could've gone under a flatbed if I hadn't manage to steady the bike.

Also its just fucking lazy. HTFU and pedal!

This is true. A little courtesy goes a long way. They have a fucking miserable job after all.

  • And Bigger problems to solve really!

  • You are completely correct.

i said something along these lines and got "do you want to go to jail or just get a ticket"

    I said "Ticket pelase"

I over took one near Barbican, they were in the bike lane and i went in the car bit, where it has the camera to check license plates. They looked confused, it wasn't illegal and they could do nothing, but they definitely didn't like it.

You still have to pedal if its fixed :b

  • well if your time is money and you needed to be there (wherever you were going) i guess you had already worked out that a £30 fine was well worth getting there a couple of minutes earlier than if you had waited at lights.

  • I've never been stopped.

Having said that I probablyy will be stopped this evening on my way home from work.

  • Well, unfortunate but still doesn't beat the high score of 11 RLJ fines in ten minutes 'cos a po po car was following you through each jump. £330 OUCH! (not me btw, just a story I heard along t'grapevine)

  • my dad and his mates used to draft behind lorries on their motorbikes. on one occasion the back door of the lorry came open and killed the drafter. probably not the best idea

  • why would you need to draft a slow vehicle when your riding a much faster one?

  • Saves Fuel.

At least one of the Hackney South bike squad who came to one of our monthly Hackney LCC meetings some years ago is a pretty good time triallist/roadie. I don't know if he's still there but they were joking about him racing ahead to catch a suspect before his colleague could make it and thereby putting himself in danger. He'd have you for breakfast.
