  • I've ridden fixed for about 1 minute 30 in my life, just got back from picking up various bike bits all day, one of the last being a fuji track. Picked it up in Camden and had to get back to Walthamstow, couldn't get the bus or tube and a train journey would take forever, fuck it I thought I'll ride home. The saddle was too low, the rear tyre was low, the pedals were shit, I had no brakes and I was carrying a shedload of stuff including some rims over my shoulder. But I made it home in one piece, how the fuck you ride brakeless downhill without shitting it I don't know.

  • You could have told someone on the forum..maybe announce it abit
weird thing is, i just got back from walthamstow, and i live in Camden

  • Fuji Track 2008?
Was looking at that for my first fixed gear. Decided against it though but deffinietly a looker.
I think props for survival skills that go beyond Bear Grills' are in order.

  • good man!

  • Yup 2008 indeed, it's gonna get converted into a stealth bike so keep an eye out in the projects thread.

  • Bet you your stealth bike doesn't have the stealth skills of stealth cat!

  • it's not easy to slow the bike down riding brakeless down a hill with the original gearing (is it 48x15?). good effort to not run under a bus or over a gutter :)

a lower ratio makes it better, but not as good as a brake.

    fuji track ftw.

  • 48/16 I think, didn't help that the pedals were a small sliver of metal with no toe clips either. It did make me question my decision to go SS instead of fixed though as it was still quite a fun ride nonetheless

  • HA HA HA! stealth cat is hilarious! My computer desk overlooks our garden and watching the cats stalking squirells/other cats/blades of grass provides me no end of entertainment.

  • 48/16 without brakes or toeclips should NEVER be described as a fun ride!

  • actually i'm more impressed with not managing to get a puncture on the way home with a low tyres.

hahahaha that cat cracked me up

  • I rode 48:16 brakeless home once because I bent my front wheel and it was fucking horrible. That's something like 81 GI! To be honest, it was a pretty horrible gear to start with.

    Nice bike though.

And that stealth cat is amazing!

Sounds promising. Are you going to be doing anything to the frame?

  • The best advice i got for riding downhill fixed and brakeless was
"Hold it.. fuck it just let it go.. No maybe hold it a bit.. ah fuck it"

48:16 is the most evil gear in the known universe: FACT.

And don't get me started on it's lonely-ass single skid spot. uggggh!

oh my god that is incredible!

  • Hehehe! That cat is the best!

  • lol Im riding 48:15 brakeless because I coudnt be bothered to change the cog, I now dont have any strength to change it ;)

I need a big strapping man to change cogs/open my jam jars ...anyone?

  • Groom alert.

  • hael, i got a chain whip can bring tonight if you want

  • hael, i got a chain whip can bring tonight if you want

Ah cheers but its ok I can use the chain on the bike to get them off, just that Im lazy and will have to mess about with half links ;)

Powdercoating the mattest deepest black there is is my plan at the mo. might have to make do with an electrical tape job for a month until next months student loan comes through.

The best advice i got for riding downhill fixed and brakeless was
"Hold it.. fuck it just let it go.. No maybe hold it a bit.. ah fuck it"

Ha! that was my thought process the entire way down the hill,

"Ah this downhill is a bit easier, oh shit no brakes I forgot, grrrr back pressure! Fuck it there's no cars let it go, oh wait I really shouldn't be getting too brave, I've only been riding brakeless for 20 minutes, grrrrr more back pressure!"

  • Powdercoating the mattest deepest black there is is my plan at the mo. might have to make do with an electrical tape job for a month until next months student loan comes through.

I'd leave it...electric tape jobbies are pretty blah (slight Nathan Barley reference there)

  • Blah is not necessarily bad though, it's gonna be left out in London a lot and it's brand new and would blatantly jump out to potential thieves eyes, making it look a bit shit in the mean time isn't that bad of an idea.
