  • How about Roberts decals?

You didn't just win a red frame on ebay did you?
    =)

  • For Roberts decals you might try Roberts. Just a thought.

  • Or Dave at Colourtech, who spray Roberts frames.

  • Skulls you coming West this week?

  • You didn't just win a red frame on ebay did you?
    =)

    Afraid not.

For Roberts decals you might try Roberts. Just a thought.

I emailed them last week and got no reply, but I'll give them a call today.

  • Skulls you coming West this week?

    Yep!

  • For Roberts decals you might try Roberts. Just a thought.

For Roberts decals you have to prove it's a Roberts.

A good photo, serial number or visit to their shop will work.

  • Cheers guys, I'll try sending another email.

  • yeah ebay

  • Job done...all ordered and he asked me to post his new website address

    http://hlloydcycles.com/index.htm

  • Gav, did you manage to get Roberts transfers?

  • Anyone know where I can get hold of old Raleigh decals?

pretty sure that mario has a fair few:

    02088520711
He runs a small bike painting shop.

He might have Roberts decals as well...

  • Gav, did you manage to get Roberts transfers?

Not yet, they never got back to my emails!

  • As the title suggests, I have an old Carlton frame I have had powdercoated. I want to apply decals to it so it resembles its old self again, on the down tube and seat tube.

After speaking to Nick at http://www.hlloydcycles.com/ he suggested that powdercoating is a nightmare for decals to stick to, with it having almost teflon like repelent properties. . .

I'm sure theres plenty of folk who have experience of trying to fit decals after powdercoating, any tips? things I need to watch out for? I had a search but couldn't find anything.

There seems to be vinyl or waterslide too . . .

  • I've used proper adhesive backed decals on a powder coated Stratton with no issues.

  • Has it been laquered?

  • I've applied normal decals to powdercoated and lacquered frame ( over the lacquer ). Sticks on fine and looks good - but ultimately it won't be as durable as if it where done properly ( ie. applied before lacquering ).

  • Has it been laquered?

It was powdercoated at Armourtex, normal coat and then high gloss coat. So it hasn't been lacquered as such. I think if I were to apply decals and then spray lacquer it myself it has potential to look a bit crap, and i'm not too sure how powdercoat will react to spray can lacquer? . .

  • Don't try and spray lacquer it you'll just fuck it.
I have an Armourtex powder-coated Carlton frame with H lloyd cycles decals which are also adhesive backed. Pondered for ages whether or not to apply them after Nick from H Lloyds advised against it. Eventually bit the bullet and they're absolutely fine. Admittedly I've not been pressure hosing my frame or anything but they're fairly rock solid. Do it - you'll be chuffed once you have.
    [Post pix once you have].

  • Murso, thanks for the advice, I knew someone must have done it!

What kind did you use, do you remember if the transfers you used from H lloyd cycles were W 'waterslide' or C 'Cut and Printed' ? My understanding is that the waterslide decals are like you get with an airfix model and the cut and printed would be more like a simple sticker.

Will put some pics up one I have decals on and have tried my hand at lining the lugs. . .

  • Yep, think that's it.

    These be mine
H Lloyd Ebay listing doesn't refer to them the same way as their web shop catalogue. If they had i wouldn't have gone for them as i didn't want waterslide ones (which i think they are listed as on their website).

    Fingers crossed then!
