The Zen has a higher degree of 'roundness' - all chainrings are, to a lesser or greater degree, not perfectly round, the Zen is meant to be one of (if not the) most 'round' chainrings out there.
This is a real benefit when setting it up in a fixed gear drivechain as it allows you to get your chain fairly tight chain with out binding spots.

which is weird as you run a relatively loose chain on the track.
zen for uber hipster cred

i agree the zen looks a bit shit, but ive had so many problems with chainrings/bolts/bb's etc. that i just want something that'll work everytime without having to be constantly adjusted.

the wankiest description ever?
"Zen is then the fundamental perfection of everything existing, and is known by all the great saints and sages of all times. Zazen is then, rather than a method to bring people to liberation, an expression and realization of the perfection already present in every person."
i found another description on an american site and think i posted it somewhere on here but can't find either, basically saying it was their top quality and strongest, which led me to purchasing one...

ah, here it is;
**A GPS that truly navigates! **Features the high ZOOT 46T ZEN chainrings, NOT the heavier cheaper "ZEN Messenger" version.
These would be NJS approved, if it were not for the color change.A great crank for your fixed gear ride.
The Sugino 75 is as good as Dura Ace or Record, but costs much less!
A classic, world approved crank that is as stiff as they come.
Get these colors while you can...1/8” ~ 144 BCD ~ 46t CHAINRING
An ultra-round super rigid ring.
Made out of stiff 7075 T6 aluminum, stamped, machined and then polished smooth.
The Zen ring also features the SSGN super smooth tooth profile, which means the tooth valleys are rounder and the side tooth profile is smoother than the standard Sugino 75 SSG rings. This more expensive process helps reduces chain noise and also improves ring and chain engagement and wear.
FEATURES
- Sugino Zen 144 46T chainring (NJS-level), anodized to match
- Chainring bolts
- Cold forged Super Duralumin crank arms
- BCD 144
- Bottom bracket ISO square taper 109mm spindle, Sugino SG75 BB strongly recommended
- Chainline 42mm
- Polished anodized finish
- Sugino Zen 144 46T chainring (NJS-level), anodized to match

smoothness
Was wondering if anyone can tell me the benefits of Zen over 75 chainrings (if any).
I've heard that the Zen's have smaller teeth and therefore are less noisy. Are they stiffer? are there any other benefits?
I did do a search, but couldn't find anything.
Cheers.
