• a few weeks ago i changed a tube in a hurry and accidentally put my wheel on backwards (its a flipflop hub) so it was on freewheel - but i didn't realize it, ran outside, jumped on and had a very surreal feeling of utter confusion/lack of control/jelly legs before i figured out what i'd done. rode that way to where i was going and had to actually focus on coasting because it felt so foreign. it's never happened the other way around though since i only have the one bike and keep it on fixed.

    Yeah, it's such a disconcerting feeling to be relying on brakes for control. It just goes to show how much you actually adjust speed through your legs without relying on brakes, even at times you don't think you are braking.
