This is true, I got Sheldon Brown on the line instead and from what I can remember of what he told me last night is that he did not mention this either. Which might indicate that it should be obivous, only it wasn't. To me at least.

I tried dis-assembling a front caliper to put in a longer bolt but after reassembling it never seemed to work properly :-( Okay will bring along whatever I have got here.
